Please stop complaining about missing material

Maybe it's just me, but I feel a bit irritated by the amount of people complaining about rules or material which aren't yet included in the playtest package(s).

Things such as your favourite race, your favourite class, your favourite monster, your favourite spell, fluff descriptions of alignment or monsters or anything else, your most wanted optional module or rules for special scenarios...

Just because it ain't in the playtest doesn't mean it won't be in the game, although the risk that something not as common as the iconic classes and races ends up in supplement rather than core exists. But the playtest current stage must only get the kernel of the game right, the right feel and balance, and how different parts of the game connect.

If they put too much meat on the grill now, playtesting will be spread on too many elements at once rather than focusing on how each type of element work, so think of it this way: less material now means stronger testing on such material, means stronger testing on the additional material we'll get later including your favourite stuff.

I agree in general, but I will also say that there seems to be some confusion about which areas of the packet constitute the proposed form of the new game vs. material that was just copied over as an expedient. It would be nice if the playtest materials marked filler sections as 'not yet revised' or something so that we don't get threads where people are complaining that such-and-such was copied over from 3/4e without fixing or improving anything. Mike Mearls posted on Twitter that certain sections didn't reflect the design intention for the new materials but was just included as a temporary stop gap, and that the testing focus was elsewhere- it would be nice if that was explicit so people know if their feedback is relevant or not.

Well, I do find it pretty odd that the playtest doesn't have a dragon in it. Apparently Penny Arcade was being oddly prophetic with the joke about Dragons being sold separately.;)

I personally think it would behoof those actually planning to do a playtest avoid the forums until they complete it. The atmosphere here is toxic to an unbiased test of the material.

I've found the atmosphere toxic for almost anything at this time. I've almost completely stopped posting, and even reading certain threads because of it.

Yes, it is getting kinda sad that it is almost 100% possible to know what a few posters are gonna say before reading past their usernames.

And it will be 100% negative.

My ignore list has gotten a few new residents in the last few days.

Yeah I'm thinking of starting one as well. I'm tired of reading an interesting thread only to be smacked with a useless negative comment. Constructive criticism is fine, the "it sucks!" comments are getting old.
