The first two episodes of Vince Gilligan's (Breaking Bad) new show dropped on Friday. Given that he once wrote for The X-Files, it's fitting that he's returning to sci-fi this time.

I really liked the first two episodes. I really appreciated that they didn't pull a Lost and just keep piling on more questions and answering none. When Carol asks a question, it gets answered.

My only reservation is that I can't work out how this can be a long-term story. There are 11 people left in the world (plus the hive-mind which does anything they ask and answers any questions they have). It feels more like that's enough content for a single Black Mirror episode than a long-form series with multiple seasons. But... I guess that's why I'm watching--to find out.

I did enjoy that guy turning up in Air Force One. And when Carol says she wants to meet the 5 English-speaking people remaining, Pirate Lady just tilts her head and then says "All five say yes". The scene where Carol talks to the government man on TV was fun, too.

So yeah. So far, so good!

I think the show writer said he has plans for 4 seasons...
I have no idea where he plans to run with the story.
I'll put this show on my "wait" list, and watch it if the last season comes out (and it has a positive reception). I really hope it is not going to turn out like Lost.

I really enjoyed the first two seasons. I love how there are lots of questions, but none of them are "what's happening?" It's a very well-explained show.

Like others said, I'm really interested in how they keep the story going. But I trust there's a plan and I'm looking forward to seeing it develop.

Some of my biggest questions are:

1) What is the purpose of the virus? Is it just self-replication, and eventually it sends out another signal to a planet of intelligent beings? Or is it setting up Earth to be colonized by another alien species?

2) How would the infected be acting if Carol and the others weren't around? We saw a bit of it when Pirate Lady was making her away across the world. Is there still self expression? Music? Art? It seems like the virus didn't wipe out everyone's personalities, it just linked them together into one big pool so that each person is everyone. When the survivors are having dinner with their infected family members, are the infected actually enjoying the food? Or are they just putting on a show?

3) Will this be a story about reversing the infection or about coming to peace in an uncontrollable situation? Will Carol's fierce individuality have any impact on the infected?

This show is giving me a lot to think about!
