Pocket Players Handbook

I'td be good if GoO could do one for their SRD, although since I'm sold on the idea of seperate books, they could probably gwet a whole one out of that massive combat chapter. And then do a Character Creation one too.

So:
D&D:
Combat (with B&W diagrams of combat)
PCs & NPCs (with 10 or 20 pages of pre-made characters for use as NPCs or PCs in quick games)
Spells (with diagrams for Areas of Effect, etc.)
Monsters (with flavour text removed aside from brief physical description)

D20 Modern:
Combat (as above)
PCs, NPCs & Spells (as above, but given the short nature of D20 Modern's FX section, I think we can fit it in here)
Monsters (as above)

D20 Anime:
Combat (very large book because the Combat Section in D20A is HUGE)
PCs & NPCs (as above, though there may be less pre-made characters due to how big the Attributes section will be)

Now, if we could get each for $10, that'd be $90, which gives 3 games for the prie of the full sized D&D! W00t.

And of course, there's still stuff like CoC and Star Wars...;)

Which is probably one reason why you won't see them priced that way.

Back in 1988 I was sitting in the office of my then employer at 6am wishing TSR would produce a "pocket" version of the core rule books with plain covers, black and white, mostly text interiors. My reasoning at the time was as follows:

These would be portable, and less likely to draw unwanted attention when in places other than at the game. (For instance, at the office.) This was especially important if you remember the controversial nature of the game in some sectors at that time.

I wrote a letter, but sadly did not receive a response and until now had not even given it another thought. Nice to see I'm not alone in thinking how cool this idea is. Thanks for bringing it up Psionicist!

What I'd like is just as above with a boring brown or blue outer cover saying nothing more than SRD Reference Guide in either black or white text. You could read that almost anywhere without a second glance from others, unless of course they know what the SRD happens to be.

It also wouldn't take up as much desk, counter-top, or other space and be easier to put aside when doing other things without having to put it completely away.

Here's hoping someone with some publishing muscle and know-how can do this right.

The size Green Ronin uses for the Arcane Grimoire is how I picture it.

Great minds think alike. :)

Hmmm... come to think of it, how much of the rulesbooks is 'flavor.' Do we really need the examples or the historical background? If most of that was cut out, most of the PHB (minus spells) could fit into pocket size, and with some decent diagrams and tables.

I love this idea!

Though my spin on it would be to print out each book as a set of 2 or 3 with slightly larger text, some simple nice artwork, and a spiral binding in a book the size of an 8 1/2 x 11 page cut in half (roughly 5 x 8 or so is nice). The cover could be a thick paper and the aforementioned tabs would be wonderful. Finally as a sideline, a small leather bag or pouch could be sold that would be large enought to contain all the books together for portability witha second compartment to hold your folders / notebooks / character sheets.

I'd buy that in a second esp. if you could sell the books individually or as a group. That would rawk.

Great idea especailly since I can't afford the pda route :(

All for the smaller reference works.
Could they please be spiral-bound and on thick stock?
Or spiral-bound laminated?

Pocket size Dnd that can stand up to beverages, now that sounds cool. (for all those who had to say farewell to a drenched copy of their core material)

I agree with this suggestion. When I buy PDF products I usually print them out and get them spiral bound at Kinkos. Works like a charm and the "books" fold flat. :)

I SO want some of these.
My group would especially like one just for spells.
Me as a DM would love all the above that has been mentioned. :D
