Okay, fine. PHB, pg 6. "The DM narrates the results of the adventurer's actions."

Getting stabbed in the stomach sounds like a valid description.

It is not a valid description if the DM then turns around and complains about how bad the rules of DnD are because in real life being stabbed in the stomach is fatal.

I find save or die to be absurd. Save or slow death is another thing, tho'.
