Polis: 3.5 Homebrew [Closed]

I'll definitely try to finish up this character tonight.. I've been busy the last couple of days:) Oh and one last thing, according to the combat system, do Swashbucklers combat proficiency or do I have to burn a feat for it?

Man alive, leave the post alone for a day or two and look what happens.
jpwic - Swashbucklers, and for that matter any class that normally has Martial prof, get the Combat Proficiency feat. Edit: Swashbucklers and Samurai also count as fighters for the Combat Proficiency chain.
Orichin - Battle Sorcerer is a great choice; I'm allowing pretty much any of the UA variants that don't directly contradict each other.
DocHazard - In case you haven't already gotten it from another source, here's the basics of the Urban Ranger: Class Skills - swap Knowledge (Nature) and Knowledge (Dungeoneering) for Gather Information, Knowledge (Local) and Sense Motive. Animal Companion must be Medium or below (certain exceptions may apply at higher levels). Instead of Track, gain Urban Tracking (similar to Track, uses Gather Information instead of Survival). Wild Empathy - 1/2 Level+Cha instead of Level+Cha. Favored Enemy: Can select an organization instead of a creature type. The Polismen (the elite law unit) are probably a good organization to pick. Spellcasting: too numerous to talk about (and not very important for a 3rd level Ranger), but basically swap all the animal/plant ones for city/movement spells. Special Abilities: No Woodland Stride or Camouflage; Swift Tracker aplies to Urban Tracking; Hide in Plain Sight works in any area, natural or not.

In general: can't think of all too much to say... good concepts so far... plot is being worked on and the first chapter will definitely be ready by the time everyone's got fleshed-out characters.

Prolly better off in the rules for but it directly relates to the game.. This is a question about defence bonus and damage reduction. In standard D&D my character's AC is 17 (+4 dex, +3 for studded leather). With Defence bonus this now becomes 11 right (4 base, +4 dex, +3 AC leather). Now how does DR fit into this with the DB? It says studded leather is AC 2 instead of AC 3, its gotten me all confused , any help is very much appreciated:)

Background: Born of a respected orc clan, who have seen bad times lately thanks to bad business dealings. He was sent out from the clan as a mercanary/bodyguard, he has also served time as a caravan guard, and enforcer. It all depends on who is paying the bills. He tries to be honorable with his employers and fulfill his contracts. However he does harbor a bit of a grudge against the trading company/family responsible for his clan's current straits. They are suspected to have used shady dealings. Though nothing can be proven at this point.

Description: 6' 5 270lbs with Black hair and Grey eyes with battle scars and two pronounced tusks makes him quite intimidating.

jpwic: I should've mentioned; I'm also using the variant that makes Defense Bonus/Armor not overlap. So you've got basically two options (when you're wearing armor, I'll let you choose between the two): 1) Don't count the armor. AC 18 (10+4 Dex +4 Class). 2) Don't count the Defense Bonus. AC 16 (10+4 Dex+2 Studded Leather), DR 1/-. The rule for pretty much all armor in the Armor as DR system is half the armor bonus (round up), gain DR equal to half the original armor bonus (round down).

Orichin: Great character background... you've already given me a delightful plot twist (Evil DM laughter is only heard on a DC 55 Listen check)

rangerjohn: good stats, ready and waiting for the personality.

My character is just about done. I have all the stats done (except for HP, I'm not sure how you want that rolled). I just have to work on his background when I get home from work and Nicolo will be finished.

PS And thanks for your help Lurker:)

So I guess my character should go with full plate? AC:15 DR 4 vs. AC:15?

HP rolling: full for 1st level, avg for others (3.5 on d6, 4.5 on d8, 5.5 on d10, etc; remember the .5, so 3d6 would be 6+3.5+3.5=13)
AC: it's often a difficult decision between armor and unarmored; Ul-Than Two-Tusk, for example, would have an 18 AC unarmored (+1 Dex, check UA Table 4-1 for 3rd level fighter, +7 Class) or a 15 AC and DR 4/- in full plate. I've mentioned that you can pick either choice while armored; it takes a move action to switch. (you'll find that the DR is more valuable against a lot of weak dmg attacks, AC is better vs one super-attack, etc)

One character-building suggestion: three-dimensional movement is important. Huge buildings, floating citadels, and jungles of wires and ropes are going to be fairly common, so Climb, Use Rope, or levitate/feather fall/fly will be fairly useful. More on the world next update.

Side note, I'm going to be gone Sat-Sun; I'll have internet access but not my campaign materials, so I'll try to answer any questions to the best of my ability, but some details may have to wait until Nov 1st.
