If a new Arabian Adventures setting were produced...

What game system would you want it designed for? What kind of content would you expect? How would you want it presented/packaged? Discuss.

What About Thay?

I run a Thayan campaign; my version of Thay is based on an extensively corrupt version of medieval Persia.

It's not truly Arabian in flavor, but it has a pseudo-Arabian/Persian quality to it.

Obviously, d20 ... but closer to Dungeons & Dragons, okay, third-party publisher?

From WotC? AEG's Land of the Burning Sand. Ha! :p

Content should offer historical, semi-historical, and Scheherazade-style fantasy.

If you think you can do better than Al-Qadim: Arabian Adventures book, go for it. The presentation of the book is so appealing even to nongamers (you know, the ones that do not know the language of stat-block speech or Crunch like we do). The only albeit minor drawback is the softcover treatment.

Doesn't matter, I can adapt to any system if the flavor is good.

I am actually running one in my primary game world right now... It is strongly persian, but with the unique flavor the history of a different, magical world brings.

Content is important, the mythos, the society, the special organizations (the one good use of prestige classes - inclusion in an organization), history of the society, inter-relations to non-desert areas, etc.

Packaging? I actually still prefer boxed sets for most campaign settings. I want my maps, and I want 'em nice. I'm willing to draw them if it's one of my worlds, if I pay for the world, they better have paid a cartographer and printed it up for me.

I don't care about Al-Qadim per se, so if I ever wanted this sort of product, I'd rather see one designed to suit Third Edition assumptions, and without a history for fans to get upset about deviations from.

I voted for every option. :uhoh:

No, it makes sense, trust me.

It's just that I don't care about the specifics, so long as someone just makes the damn thing, and soon! :]

If I had my way though, I think 'mythic Arabia' would be the best way to go. Which doesn't quite fit on the ilst there.

A box set would be nice, with big poster-size maps and the rest.

d20 would be my preference, though with classes and races etc. completely done over.

Heh. C.A. Suleiman and I have been pushing a number of companies to let us do this for over a year now--since before we finished writing Hamunaptra, in fact. Alas, nobody's gone for it as of yet, but there's always hope.
