(Poll) Arabian Adventures

What Arabian Adventures setting would you be interested in?

I picked the first choice, because I think that the Al-Qadim setting material is some of the best produced for D&D. The initial book, and the boxed sets "Land of Fate" and "City of Delights" are fantastic. The boxed sets are pretty low on crunch, so it's relatively easy to use them for d20/3e.

That said, I wouldn't mind seeing the second and third choices.

I'd want it done for d20. I'd love to see it given treatment as good as the Al Qadim material, which was often some of the most top-notch stuff TSR was producing. It'd probably be better to do it as a book, though, as opposed to a boxed set.

If it is going to be produced for an "existing world" then I think an Arabian Nights approach would be best. If it is to be a stand-alone / any world setting, then I am all for re-vamping al-Qadim. However, as someone above said, deviation from that TSR product content might cause a furor. So, even as I type this, I guess I am moving toward an Arabian Nights approach anyway.

Well...

Persian speaking out:

Definately make the material solid enough to stand on it's own and be integrated into any campaign setting with a desert. In addition, bring back that lovely art we were used to.

I read through Al Qadim a couple years ago; while I liked the setting, it was a little too, I dunno, cartoonish for my tastes. Everything was just a little too technicolor.

Which is fine for many folks, but the poll wasn't about which setting would be the most profitable: it's about which I'd prefer. And I'd prefer a setting that's a little grittier, a little darker.

One idea to play with would be having a pseudoZoroastrian religion: a religion with one good god (Ormazd) and one evil god (Ahriman) locked in conflict. All other deities would be lesser servitors or aspects of these two, and you could have creation and destruction myths tied into them. It could be fun.

You forgot....

That I own everyting for AL Qadim ever released - most of which is cool - and onl some of which I ever used.

So at this point - I already have that kind of material in abundant supply and have a hard time justifying buying it again.

Well, assuming this is a mini-market survey, you forgot the option to tell you what fraction of responders are interested in something like al-Qadim. Unless of course, you've already got that info, or it's immaterial to you.

Of course, the people like Steel_Wind are an even more relevant problem.

Good points Guardian. Yes, I've got some info, but it's certainly not complete.

I'm curious: Many people want a 3e Al-Qadim it appears like. Is it that you want to have all your existing Al-Qadim products still easily useful? (though I don't see how they'd be less useful in another setting, only need a bit of tweaking) Or is it that you want a certain "Al-Qadim feel" to the setting? If so, what is this "Al-Qadim feel"?

Are there many like Pielorinho, who want a grittier less technicolor/cartoonish setting?

Thanks for your input! And Mousferatu, I just e-mailed ya.

I wasn't ever that big on Al-Qadim, so I voted for a totally new arabian themed world. I would like it to mesh with D&D and have a lot of flavor inspired from Arabian Nights.

Would a product like this be released in the current world climate? Not likely.
