so why are the seven who are set against it still reading the 4e boards?

Because some of the discussions are interesting. Because it's still a good system despite not wanting to play it, and you can get loads of ideas from it. Not going to play it doesn't mean you're not interested in the system and how it works. Also if you're going to stay with 3.5e, 4e might have some useful features that can be converted. Lots of reasons.
