DR

I like the new DR idea. The typical warrior (Conan, for example) doesn't carry four weapons, or one uber weapon that kills everything.

If his weapon won't work on a monster, he shoves the monster off a cliff. Or he drops something large on the monster. Or he sets the monster on fire. Or he runs away. :)

I'll probably download the SRD, and pick the changes that I think improve the game. The new damage resistance system, for instance, is completely ridiculous and un-heroic, IMO. Who ever heard of a warrior carrying four different weapons so he could kill all types of monsters? I can't think of a single example in fantasy litterature.

PS for Zappo!

Do you own both the Italian and English versions of the corebooks? I have been playing in English only, but I always wanted to know how the names of monsters, spells, equipment ecc. have been translated in Italian. I would like to make an Excel file with all the translations.
I own the italian PHB. I can understand English almost as easily as Italian, but that's not the case with the vast majority of Italian people, including those I game with. If my players are going to flip through the MM to find out the monster's weaknesses, they will bloody well have to sweat through English doing it. :D

At least they'll learn something actually useful. Plus, browsing through a tome of ancient lore that is actually written in a language that the player can barely understand is the top of roleplaying, don't you think? :D :D

However, I used to have most core 2E books in Italian, and the translations of items, spells and monsters are the same; I know those of most magical items. They are very good translations, except for the occasional fluke. For example, rogue is ladro, which has the connotation of thief. The "conjuration" school becomes "evocazione", which is too similar to "evocation", leading to confusion for people like me who use both English and Italian manuals. And then there's the old orc problem, dating back to the first translation of LotR. But that's about it, I can't remember any other relevant mistake (and, to be fair, I can't figure a better solution to any of these).

Email me if you want more information. The address is in the profile. :)

I plan on sticking with 3E, with no intention of buying the new version. What I have works fine for my campaign and I see no reason to waste money on new books when I could spend it on other game stuff (like minis :) ).

With all the people here buying and coverting immediately no wonder there are always quick complaints about being unsatisfied and things being "broken"... :p

Without knowledge of whether or not the immediate buyers of the book are the complainers (or whether the complainers have gone into the 'wait and see' mode), I don't we can assume anything! ;)

Cheers!

I voted "wait and see" because I don't intend to buy 3.5 until the Living campaigns I play in convert. I'm guessing that will be around the end of the year.

i wont be buying them.

My campaign is in its third year and the serious issues were dealt with long ago. it would be ludicrous to convert now.

since i dont see myself running another dnd game within 2-3 years, I will wait for 4.0 perhaps.

49% ready and willing to buy? Wow, no wonder Wizards consider this a good move.

Too many rich and gullible customers. LOL! :p

Although I'm sure some of them are doing so to replace their worn and torn rulebook after 2 years. Which begs the question, what the hell are you guys doing to your books? What possible mistreatment have you put your books under? I mean geezus! Books have civil rights, too. Treat them humanely. Just because it is your property doesn't mean you have the right to abuse it.

My gawd, the rainforest trees have more rights than those books.

I may have to start up an amnesty organization to promote the humane treatment of game books.

:p
