(Poll) LOTR: Now many Oscar nominations will it receive?

How many Oscar nominations will "Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" receive? The nominations will be announced today (Tuesday) in Los Angeles -- I believe at 5:30 a.m. Pacific Time.

I predict 8: Best picture, best director, best adapted screenplay, best cinematography, best original score, best visual effects, best makeup and best sound effects.

I figure the movie will get stiffed because its too far from the mainstream. Even if it gets a few placebo nominations, I dont think it will win any of the major awards. Maybe best sets or best costumes or something relatively lame, but thats about the best I think we can bet on.

the oscars are a popularity contest meant to celebrate hollywood. a film made in new zeeland, breaking all hollywood's rules won't do to well.

i consider myself a serious moviegoer, and watch the oscars (bet on them too) but i don't take them too seriously

I think LotR will not get best shots this year...

Well, I don't know about nominations, but Oscars definitely. After all, PJ will have made the same directoring effort the next two years, too.

My guess is they wait until the third movie's out, and then heap oscars upon him (9-13)

From everything I've been readin it's a matter of will it pass Titanic for most nominations. Which they would need 14 to tie. I ahve a hard time swallowing that it will get that many nominations but who knows. I could see around 10 plus/minus a few.
