D&D 5E [POLL] Too many concepts, not enough games!

Where do you fit on the concept vs play time spectrum?

  • I don't really keep track of concepts until the game starts, so not really applicable

  • Rarely do I get a chance to actually play the concepts because I have so many of them to try!

  • I never/almost never get to play the concepts I want to play (always the DM, party need, etc)

I mostly DM, but I work up parties for fun, either randomizing composition by class or doing something like rolling stats in order. I don't keep track of how many concepts I have, and if I'm playing and I need to do something I haven't written up, I'll make something else up. It's no biggie. Most of the characters I write up, I write up as though they were in my campaign setting anyway, so there's at least a little revision going to be needed if I use one.

This isn't really 5e or D&D specific, to my mind.

I'm the GM for my group. And, when I do play, what game it will be is pretty random - maybe someone's going to offer up 5e. Or maybe it'll be Spirit of the Century, or goodness knows what else. A list of D&D character concepts is of no value to me, so I don't make them up beforehand.
