But seriously, considering they made it as far as Easter Island, it's not a stretch to think they would make it to Chile (which is pretty far away, like 2000 miles further, but definitely doable). I mean, Thor Heyerdahl went twice as far the other way (his theory was that Polynesia was populated by S. Americans) in the Kon Tiki.
The trip from S. America to Polynesia is a drift voyage following the prevailing winds and currents. To go from Polynesia to S.America means sailing against the wind and thus skill and well developed maritime technology.
And Thor Heyerdahl was wrong
