Possibility of D20 Midkemia

Krieg

First Post
Sandain started a thread titled "Eddings or Fiest (sic) D20" for the purpose of seeing if anyone has run a campaign in the worlds of Raymond Feist or David Eddings.

Since it had been a long time since I had seen any life on the Midkemia Press website I decided to drop Steve Abrams a line and see if they had any future projects planned.

I was pleasantly surprised by his quick reply and we exchanged a couple of emails on the subject. With Steve's permission I've decided to go ahead & post his side of the conversation (it's by far more interesting than my contribution to the exchange. ;) )...

There are (and have been) a number of things in the
works, some of which have fallen by the wayside.
There is a current license for a MUD and we are
in discussions regarding a d20 version of the game
and world, including new modules. Only time will
tell what will happen. Assuming anything does I'll
put the info on the web site but as you can tell
not much concrete has happened for a while.

We had a very long talk about the issues that we
had with d20 with the company that is interested.
They have done several d20 products and have at
least for now convinced us that our concerns may
well be addressable within the scope of the rules.
Discussions continue, which is positive, but only
time will tell whether this goes to fruition...
Talk is cheap and we've been down this road before.

Sure - post away. We're not trying to keep secrets
I just haven't had much time or much to say with
regard to keeping the site up to date.
Thanks for the interest -- hopefully something
will break.

So as you see there is a possibility of a D20 translation of Midkemia seeing the light of day. I suggested on the original thread that folks interested in such a project drop Steve a line & voice their support. I also thought there
might be enough interest to start a new thread specifically on the topic.

So to make a long story short, if you would be like to see Midkemia reincarnated drop Steve a line and let him know you are interested. Maybe we can help grease the wheels a bit! :)

Love to see it

I dropped a line to express my interest too. I ran a Midkemia homebrew a few years ago (when I was able to game more). It was a blast. I loved the Feist novels, and regardless of where you are on the relative merits of the books, I think the characters were great inspirations for npc's in my world. I hope it happens.

Out of curiosity, what Midkemia books would folks want converted to d20 first? Are folks most interested in d20 versions of Feist's novels, or of Midkemia Press books, or both, and which ones?

Well, I've never seen the Midkemia Press books so it is hard to say. But I think what would be best is do a campaign setting approach. Give us the countries, the city states, the history, and allow people to make their own stories in it. THe books are very event oriented, don't make the Dragonlance mistake that has the adventures being what happened in the books.

I agree with Crothian. A campaign setting book, detailing the different regions of Midkemia and the rulers and races that exist within. A section on any special rules (magic comes to mind). Something like the Forgotten Realms book.

Of course, deciding on a period in which to set the game could prove problematic and no matter which way it went, people would be unhappy. Do you set it during the Riftwar? The Serpentwar? Somewhere in between or maybe before the Riftwar?

Personally I would love to see the old books updated, but from a marketability standpoint it is probably more feasible to do a "Midkemia Campaign Setting" book first and then do the reprints later as tie-ins to the main line.

FWIW I am just dying to see how magic is handled. :)

The only books, just for nostalgia sake.

Then a hardcover core book, much like the Dragonlance book by WoTC and if sales warrant it, sourcebooks for the different eras, much like Soverign Stone.
