Possibly dumb poll: Playing vs. Running D&D Editions

Which of the following would you be willing to do semi-regularly?

I'd play pretty much anything but the AD&Ds, though the OD&D/BD&Ds would probably only last a few sessions before I would want out. I appreciate nostalgia, but it doesn't appeal to my design instincts (which is why the advanced games are out, they are inelegant and harder to learn rather than inelegant and easy to learn)
I would prefer to get in the player's seat of 4th ed, but I'd play some 3.5, didn't get enough of it yet really.

The only two systems I know well enough to bother DMing are 3.5 & 4th, and the shear amount of prep needed for 3.5 means it's too much work.

Well, I voted that I'd be willing to run a 3.5 game largely because I am in fact running one that I intend to see through to completion. I would not, however, start running a new game using that version of the system. I also gave a "Willing to run B/X / BECMI / RC" game since I'm considering those rules for my kids' first D&D game (not counting Dragon Strike), but that may be something of a longshot.

I voted no on willing to play OD&D, 1e or 2e. I suppose strictly speakign that's not true - I know some GMs who, if they suggested such a game, I'd narrow my eyes but sign right up. That's an unlikely enough scenario, though, that I'm just calling it no based on the merits of the system alone.

However, I am astonished at how much love DMing 4e is getting.
I'm now surprised at all considering how many ENWorlders have DMed 3e.

Speaking solely for myself, running four campaigns of 3e was like the Bataan Death March. 4e is a glorious oasis of clarity and ease in comparison.

All of the above.

However, I am astonished at how much love DMing 4e is getting.

Cheers!
That's one of several things I was kind of thinking I'd see once the poll got a good sample... The recent threads about whether or not 4e does anything for you, and then the thread about 1e, made me wonder if it would show up in a poll or if it was just noise.

I am kind of surprised there aren't more people willing to play pre-3e games. Maybe I'm just old, but I have fond memories of everything but OD&D (which was before my time). The thought of playing in or running an RC or 1e game is kind of appealing. The dip for 2e surprises me, too, since it basically plays like 1e and had a crapload of fun settings.

I am not even remotely surprised to see tons of people willing to play 3e - that was, after all, the game that birthed this very site, and still tons of fun to play in.

Also, I'm pleasantly surprised to see a lot of DMing and playing love for RC. It's 3rd in popularity, after 4e and 3e (or vice-versa for playing).

As an aside, I intentionally left out OGL games, d20 Modern, SWSE, and so on... Almost everyone will find at least one of those appealing. I was a lot more curious about D&D itself.

Why?
It is the new shiny and simple to DM was high on the list of design goals.
It completely stands to reason to me.

Ah, but I've been spending a lot of time reading threads complaining about 4e!

I guess whilst a lot of AD&D DMs saw 3e as a backwards step, a lot of 3e players see 4e as a backwards step. Meanwhile, the player/DM thing is reversed otherwise.

Cheers!
