It appears there could be a possibility that there will be more than one villain in Spider-Man 3, according to a new rumor at Latino Review:

A while back Ain't-It-Cool-News broke the story that Thomas Hayden Church will indeed be playing SANDMAN and that here's a ton of Sandman conceptual art all over the Spidey-offices.

Well today 'Anonymous' tells us the following: "Yes the Sandman will be in Spider-Man 3 but he's not the only villain. And no it isn't Black Cat like some people were suggesting. It will be SANDMAN AND HOBGOBLIN"

Take this with a grain of salt right now and stay tuned for more on the villain or villains.

Blah... If it is need true then we have an Ultimate Marvel universe once again stepping to the forefront....

Not sure if that's a real complaint as I would love to see Venom on the big screen and you would ALMOST have to do the Ultimate version of it.

Hobgoblin's a great choice. Harry does find daddy's toys after all.

Oh don't get me wrong on the above as I do think its a great story idea... Just wish the Ultimate Marvel universe wasn't getting so much play in the movies... but with less back story I can see why they chose that route.

Sandman?

*jumps up and down*

Cool indeed.
I wished for THC to play Sandman (IIRC I mentioned that in the previous Spidey-villain-thread).

If only Sandman will wear his green/black shirt, that'd be even cooler ;)

And as Hobgoblin 2 was a natural choice (after Spidey 2's final scene), I'm glad Hobgob ain't the only villain - that'd be boring.

OTOH, 2 villains in one flick is difficult to pull off.

So my guess is that the real drive throughout the movie will be a the tension between
Harry and Peter with the Sandman playing second chair. While most of the film will have
Sandman and Spidey duking it out, the final climax will be Spider-Man vs. Hobgoblin.

While I'd love to see Lizard, Sandman could be interesting.

But I definitely think that the major conflict through the movie will be Peter and Harry, with the other villain as kind of a throw away. Venom just wouldn't fit into the set up that's already there.

I'm taking this with a grain of salt, but if it's true, I think it would work out okay.

Normally I'd be worried about a movie with two main villains (Batman and Robin), but assuming that Hobgoblin is Harry Osborn, I think it'll be okay since the character's been well established in the first two movies. Besides, Hobby's my favorite Spider-man villain, so I'll enjoy it no matter what.

I was kinda hoping to see Venom, but... as a half-alien, he doesn't really meld with the "freak of science" theme the rest of the rogues gallery (and Spidey himself) have going. Sandman and Hobby just fit more naturally into the setting.

One thing I'm hoping for is that at least one of the villains survives the movie. Something that bothers me about super-hero films is that it often seems like a super-villain gets his powers, terrorizes the city for a month or two, and then dies. Green Goblin, Doc Ock, the Joker, the Penguin, Two-Face, General Zod, Absorbing Man, Toad, Sabretooth...
