Here is one of mine:

Shield basher:
requires STR 13+, proficiency with shields
gain +1 STR or CON

As a Bonus action you can make one shield bash attack with your equipped shield.
you are proficient with this attack and it uses your STR mod
if you hit deal 1d6+STR bludgeoning damage.
if you have shield spikes, attack deals piercing damage
any magical +X AC bonus on the shield gives that bonus to attack and damage with this attack.
If you hit apply Push, Sap or Topple mastery.

This is a simpler version of shield master and a damage boost to sword&board style in very straightforward style.

Seems off-brand to boost sword and board damage.

I'd think something like.

Hampering Shield
+1 Str or Con
While wielding a shield, you have advantage on opportunity attacks.
In addition, you can spend your bonus action to have 5' emanation which is difficult terrain for your enemies.

it's in the idea of a "simple fighter", more attacks are more fun, more damage is more fun and control is limited and simple.

If you want simple.

Shielded Bulwark.
+1 Str or Con
+1 AC and all saves while wielding a shield.

IMO, if they want more attacks, they should be going with more weapon. Holding a shield is more should give more defense.

But don't let me spoil your fun.

shields were used offensively and there is tradition in D&D of attacking with shields in previous editions.
but it was gated behind feats/powers.

My only query would be the 1d6 damage die. If Polearm Mastery is still a feat, did that get moved up to 1d6 in 5E24 as well for its bludgeon other-end attack? Because in my opinion a Bonus action shield bash should be equal in damage to whatever the Polearm Mastery feat has. One should not be more effective than the other I don't feel. But other than that one question, everything else seems fine to me.

PAM is 10ft reach in most cases and it gives more chance to use your Reaction for attacking.

Fair enough. In my games having Reach is pretty inconsequential an ability so I never personally see that as something to balance against. But obviously your table might find it much more important and thus the higher damage die for the shield might be warranted.

I like it but I wouldn't want it as a feat. I think if you go sword and board it should be always available to shield bash as a bonus action. I'd have the damage be 1d4+str and allow AC magic bonus to apply to hit and damage too. Shield spike seems reasonable as well.

maybe,
but it's an extra attack, and I like it most for barbarians, unarmored, but still using shield in rage.
