I've got to ask the question, is the effort worth it? I can certainly relate to building a set piece for a big encounter, but do you use them all the time?

I don't plan these out much. I'm always collecting weird little toys and putting them in my DM kit, so sometimes I'll find an excuse to throw it out there. I dunno if I've ever actually built something from scratch just for a scenario.
So, yes, totally worth it.
As an aside, I've always dreamed of the projector thing but that actually seems like more work to me.

There are a few people here who are double dipping from my XP pool, but I don't care! I really enjoy seeing the effort that other DM's lavish on their games. Kudos to all.
