Poster ejection over thread closure request.

Okay, so I'll post a new thread starter shortly and I'll try to "at" some of the people here (and you can "at" others). I'll make an explicit warning about the issue correctly raised by the moderator that resulted in the prior thread's closure. I assume that will be sufficient to not run afoul of any rules, and allow the people who enjoyed the tomfoolery to congregate again in a location that is the best darn hootenanny on enworld (heavy on the hoot, light on the nanny).

Give me few minutes.

It’s the closet we had to a “let’s just chat about whatever” thread, and it was definitely a breath of fresh air compared to a lot of the more focus and heated conversations that happened elsewhere. I enjoyed being able to just write a vague post to vent and release forum frustrations, sure, but what I really enjoyed would be the varied conversations that would spawn from someone’s choice of venting. Discussions of history, business, favorite media, current and past events, people’s personal experiences, and other random tidbits of info that would come from how someone chose to cleverly post about a random thread frustration. It was fun to just read people what people chatted together about.

Huh. And here I was sure that when that thread finally got the axe I'd probably be in the middle of it somewhere.

I cannot say I disagree with the specific point that was being made, at least.

I thought about it myself but was worried about running afoul of starting a new thread with similar/same purpose as closed thread so decided not to.

It is perhaps valuable to ask - was the real usefulness of the thread different from the stated nominal purpose? Can you get much of the same value with a different thread that doesn't have that nominal purpose that turned out to be a problem?

Seems to have turned out fine. Wasnt sure if any similar thread would be instantly closed as an attempt around moderation, as happens on occasion.

I really enjoyed that thread, but I can see how the stated purpose of stating things you didn't say on other threads leads to a lot of casting shade on other posters and discussion threads. Maybe a "Random Things On My Mind Today" would do better with a few ground rules would fare better. Though 4 years and 20K + posts was not a bad run!
