Power Attack

I got a Qustion to that Feat, if a Huge Adult Dragon has it, would its Claws count as a twohanded weapon, from the size?

Or do they still count as norml.

Anyone can tell me?

Thanks Khelvan

Normal. You have to actually be wielding a weapon in two hands to get the two for one deal from PA.

The plus side is, you can wield a longsword or other one-handed weapon in two hands in order to get the benefit.

Not quite. Any two-handed weapon get the bonus, even if you find a way to wield it in one hand. Mounted with a lance is the only example that springs to mind.

That said, that certainly doesn't apply to a dragon's claws. Khelvan, if you don't mind my asking, what made you think that it might?

I don't recall reading anything specifically about this issue relating to monsters, but personally, this is how I'd rule it:

Does the attack get 1.5 * Str bonus on it?

If yes, then I'd treat it like a 2H weapon for other benefits (e.g. power attack)

If no, then I wouldn't.

So going from memory, I'd allow a dragon to get 2H benefits from power attack on bite and tail slap, but normal bonus on wings and claw attacks.

That seems to be within the existing spirit and mechanics of the rules to me.

Cheers

Just a note: Whether PS's answer follows the 'spirit of the rules' is of course a matter of opinion, but it doesn't follow the letter.

Just curious.
The Dragon has some strange features.
Its one of a campaign i master.
I just try to make sense of the Feats he has.
It seems that ps. is right about tail that seems to get more bonus from the stats.
But i will look in the Draconomicon since the vaulues in the Campaign book dont seem right.

After last time one Player got lucky with two crits in one Full AT round and killed the BBEG
luckily just in second combat round :(
I want this dragon to be realy bad.

Thats all

Thanks

I would not give the a Huge size dragon 2 x power attack it is already benifiting form extra damage for size and strength. If the the Dragon had the the Feat Superior power attack then he would get 3x damage on his power attack damage.

My group and I don't give 2 for 1 power attack on anything anyway - we think it is both unnecessary and over the top. But if we did, that is how we'd work it for monsters.

Dragons normally have so much BAB to spare that even juveniles are regularly power-attacking foes into submission just with 1 for 1 power attack.
