There is a bit of a precedent for it - in the banishment spell.
A lot would depend on the component involved. I would want these applying to categories of spells - not "just one or two". The one thing you want to avoid however, is the wizard walking around cannibalizing everything that might possibly be a power compontent...
had a GM who made you track each and every 2e spell component once before - just not worth it.

You could make all power components spoil in 24 hours unless a "gentle repose" spell (or the equivalent) is cast upon them. Thus it would only make sense to use this on those components you knew about, or were sure did something.
