Hola, folks. Now that we've sent the final proofs off, I
thought I should drop you folks a line about Wilderness &
Wasteland.
Written by Jeff Tabrum, Ed Bourelle (of SkeletonKey Games
fame), Christopher Simmons (Shadowmancer, of Ex Libris
Nocturnis) and Wil Upchurch (of Fantasy Flight Games fame),
Wilderness & Wasteland is obstensibly a guidebook to
building encounters in wilderness terrains. While the
introduction gives advice on building random encounter
charts, as well as methods of using such, the main body of
the text describes five terrains: Badlands, Deserts,
Forests, Mountains and Swamps.
Each chapter includes interesting new rules, such as new
Hazards (things similar to the slimes and traps found in a
dungeon, but naturally occuring), weather tables, unique
plants, swarms and other ideas that can spawn interesting
encounters in those areas, or even entire adventures.
Each terrain chapter also ends with a short scaleable
encounter that takes advantage of the new rules and
guidelines presented in that chapter.
The books ends with an Appendix containing random encounter
charts for the badlands, deserts, forests, mountains and
swamps of the continent of Ghelspad.
Look for it soon; I'll work on setting up a preview online
soon.
