PrC: Trip Master, Trip Anything!!!

I suggest you look at the stuff I mentioned, it's what a dedicated tripper will be sifting through when making decisions on things. In regards to the sweeping takedown, Elusive Target has a tactic called "Cause Overreach" where if a foe takes an AoO on you and misses, you immediately get a free trip attempt on him, and it doesn't even cost an AoO. Which is similar to your thing, but (IMO) cooler and more fun. On a related note, Defensive Throw lets you trip someone anytime he attacks you, but it only applies to your dodge buddy, unfortunately.

Yeah there is no reason not to get those feats and take this PrC those feats do not replace the bonuses given by this PrC... (again I havent looked at ToB though).. I love defensive throw and I have NPC's right now in my campaing that have those feats from CW... Also there may be a mix up Sweeping takedown lets you do a full attack (of trips) after you move your speed.. Cause overreach doesnt do that... Also, Reactive Takedown lets you get a trip on a foe that takes a 5ft step so you can even stall them from getting closer to you... thats AWESOME right????

Some people would call it broken and poorly balanced.

I am not one of those people.

but yeah dropping your weapon in response to a trip is sucky so maybe the trip master has learned to NOT drop his weapon on a failed trip attempt...

So the consensus is that the way it is written the trip Master is not overpowered???? I am wondering because I want to make a group of 5 villian NPC's (maybe reoccuring)and one I want to be a fighter with this PrC (I dont want to use ToB althoguh I am willing too I dont want to go through all ov the a manuvers tosee what I would wan tot use; I have used it before mainly focusing on the Diamond Mind style I love being able to take a concentrarion check in lieu of a will save!!!! and the gem blade abilites rock...

It's definitely not overpowered. My issue is that it doesn't do much and it's not solving problems or giving much in the way of cool features, just bigger numbers. The reactive trip and such are definitely my favorite parts of the class. That's more the direction I'd like to see in general. New options, techniques, and abilities, along with eliminating some of the headaches of tripping.

In some cases I think you just didn't re-read what you wrote, though. Like Defensive Trip. It requires by its writing that ALL your attacks that round were trip attempts. This just plainly ignores the benefit of the Improved Trip feat, which lets you make an attack after downing the foe (and thus it cannot be a trip!). So the cornerstone feat of the entire style completely clashes with this class feature.

As far as Setting Sun goes, you really should try to check it out, those maneuvers are awesome and let trip do cool things. The school is focused on throws and counter attacking and using your foe's power against him. At level 1, it gets a really cool Counter Charge maneuver to disrupt a charge with a throw. The strike maneuver throws basically all let you use dex instead of str and send the opponent a distance away prone for some damage. Some let you throw him into another foe to hurt and trip both. By level 6 maneuvers (level 11+), you've got Ballista Throw where you're basically using your trip victim as a weapon for a 60 ft line attack. Yes, you read that right. By level 9 maneuvers (level 17+), you get Tornado Throw, which is crazy awesome or just plain crazy, depending on who you ask. Lets you move double speed and every ten feet you move, you can hurl your foe for damage, with the trip bonus (and damage) rising with the amount you've moved. Lets you hurl the same poor guy repeatedly, too.

Aside from throws, it has lots of great counters, too. Like one high level maneuver to send a foe's attack back on himself (Fool's Strike). The first level stance lets you ignore difficult terrain and actually get a bonus for tripping people when they're on it, encouraging the use of terrain to your advantage. Just all in all, great discipline.

Yeah but it makes sense that if you ONLY trip in the round you get a binus to AC you are ducking and dodgong to=he blows... yeah improved trip does that... however why couldnt improved trip and this ability applyat the smae time... If I use my TRIP attempt (which improved trip lets you maek an attack AS IF you didnt make a trip attempt) then if you suceed you get to attack so even while tripping defesnively you get the bonus to AC... I did not misread its just improved trip lets you make an ATTACK WHILE TRIPPING (not the other way around, improved trip DOESNT let you make a trip WHILE attacking)... So both abilites can still apply.., Yeah I wrote it up really quick and it is not perfect but what I mean by defensive throw is that If all your attacks are TRIP ATTEMPTS (attempts being the key word) then you get a bonus to AC (that is a GOOD ability yeah NEW abilities are good but improving AC and str. is REALLY good too you have to admit that... and many of my features ARE unique...)... So while attempting a trip if you succeed improved trip lets you get an attack in... but that doesnt mean that all of your ATTACKS for the round WERE NOT TRIP ATTEMPTS...

i thin k it is hard to deny that these abilities increase your tripping you could trip alot of things at high levels... this makes tripping much more powerful WITHOUT making it too good...
