Pre-3.X D&D Icons

Right, party A:

Aggro the Axe, 4th level fighter
Abner, 5th level magic-user
Arkayn, 4th level cleric
Arlanni, 2nd level thief

Party B:

Gutboy Barrelhouse, 6th level dwarf fighter
Balto, 1st level monk
Blastum, 4th level magic-user
Barjin, 4th/5th half-elf fighter/magic-user

Party A wins the example combat, believe it or not.

Correcting my typo - Cthulhu's Librarian is correct; I meant to say MORGAN Ironwolf.

Let's also not forget The "Toy Iconics" of the early 80's - Strongheart the Paladin; Zarak the Orc Assassin; Ringlerun the Wizard; Kelek the Wizard; Skylla the female Wizard (didn't have a lot of female action figures at the time); Warduke the Fighter; and a host of others I can't recall. Many of them turned up in the old D&D cartoon, you no doubt remember. :)

I still wanna know why on God's Green Oerth a 6th level fighter was adventuring with a 1st level monk. :)

Especially in 1st ed. where low level monks were completely worthless. Heck they'd have trouble in melee with a wizard (ok, an exaggeration, but not by much).

I still have my Zarak, evil half-orc assassin, figure. :)

My old signature reminded us of the 2e iconics, many of which were mentioned by BOZ.

IIRC, they were far less developed than the 3E iconics. ;) i don't recall seeing any pictures of them, for one thing. rath and delsenora got mentioned frequently in the PHB though. ;)

Perhaps he was investing in his future... Protect the puney 1st level Monk NOW, reap the bennies later when he's a higher level...

Thanks for the quick replies! Keep `em coming!

As people start to mention some of the names, I'm slowly starting to recall these characters. I definitely recall Rath & Delsenora of 2nd ed. fame, & the other names sound familiar (from alignment examples, IIRC).

Speaking of the 1st ed. AD&D "toy iconics," I still have the stat sheet from the Heartstone adventure with those characters in it (plus a few that I never knew were planned or made for toys, like the Viking, female human thief, & male human ranger characters).

The big reason why I've asked this question is because I planned to drop in these characters into my campaigns (though a bit more tailored for the setting I use at the time), more as a tip of the hat to these guys. The PCs may get healign & advice from Aleena, face an evil cabal of wizards with such infamous members as Emirikol & Bargle, etc. Basically stuff that would sound familiar to some, but not outright obvious at first.

Keep `em coming!
