Tales of the Valiant's Game Masters Guide gives definitions for a bunch under the Adventures & Campaigns section (I like that they took the time and page count to detail such).. but not those 😅
But man, the ToV GMG is so good!

Personally, I think a setting should not dictate the type of adventure that takes place there. It should be limited to describing people, places, history, physical and magical laws. etc. The style of storytelling should be left to the players.

Sure! You can play a game in a sword and sorcery setting where the players run a tavern.

But I don't think it's harmful to define a genre, name inspirations for it, and suggest the kind of adventures that that genre lends itself to. Is that what you're responding to?

Heroic Fantasy - Individual heroism, personal valor, and localised quests. Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser = Greyhawk

Epic Fantasy - Large-scale conflicts, world-altering stakes, and epic worldbuilding. Lord of the Rings, = Dragonlance

Mythic Fantasy - Myth-inspired storytelling, Heroes engage in conflicts that are often allegorical. Narnia, Arthurian = Mythic Odysseys of Theros, Pendragon, Numenera

Bright Fantasy - Optimism, wonder, and uplifting adventure; magical worlds feel positive or inspiring. The Hobbit, Stardust, Wizard of Oz = The Wild Beyond the Witchlight
 

That idea is silly. The rules are deliberately generic so they can be easily customised, any setting designed around them would be utterly boring. Clearly, in order to make a setting that is remotely interesting it is necessary to modify the core rules. Indeed, that is the intent of the design.
Hey, don't argue with me. I'm just going by the criteria set out in the OP. 🤷

But, even taking your point under consideration, how in the world would you do a low magic, low fantasy, human centric game using the 2024 rules? You'd have to toss out so much of the game that there's nothing left.

If I could do it myself I wouldn’t need someone else to do it for me.
 


Heh. Fair enough. I can't even imagine what a 2024 Low Magic, Low Fantasy setting would look like. This is very much not the system I would use for that setting.
I don’t think it’s unachievable. Have you looked at the Exodus tabletop rules? They are still recognisably 5e despite having none of the classes, species etc.
 

If WOTC were to design a new setting fully committed to the content and mentality the 2024 version of 5th edition and surveyed you of what type of setting they would create, what would you prefer?

This assumptions are

1) All content in the 2024 PHB are valid for character creation as every class, background, species, equipment, are major aspects of the lore and mechanics of the setting as history, nations, iconic NPCs, and possibly patrons and creator deities.

2) All content in the 2024 MM are expected to exist in some form dead, alive, or imprisoned which could be faced as obstacles using generic 2024 lore or setting specific lore.

3) Noticeable aspects the DMG content could be expected to be used such as parts of the DMs toolbox or Bastions
I'm afraid I can't see how to construct a setting that both matches those criteria and is different enough from the existing settings for me to be interested in using it.
