Prepping a little for GC '06

Look to NASGRAG (sp) for thoughts, in one form or another it has been around for a very long time and has a very loyal following, this is do to 1) being fun 2) DM knows the material 3) focus on role-playing not rolling.
We/They run a 3 round event though, but they do manage to pack a lot into each session. I think the overall goal of finishing the adventure and advancement helps to pace it better than a one shot as well (As a DM and as a player). But what I learned from running under them has helped me write modules for living games as well as put them togeather in a fairly readable and followable format.

But yes, a less dice more roleplay feel can help ease most system learning pains, but the occasional system heavy game can be fun as well.

Conan OGL or Iron Heroes - it would start out as a straight "meet in the tavern" fantasy game, I have a few ideas about what to do next, which system to use though, Conan or IH?

I haven't looked at Iron Heroes yet, but whichever is simpler. I was supposed to be playing in a Conan game that Francisca was going to run, but it got cancelled because life got in the way of game prep.

Since I can't stand that I missed this year...I thought I would toss my hat in for an event next year. First, I had the opportunity to play a Rel Sky Galleons game at the last NC Game Day and am willing to make people quietly disappear to get in on another one ;)!

Depending on what Wulf does with GT (Grim Tales) magic over the next 12 months, I would either run a "Mythical History" GT game (Arthurian, Song of Roland or something of that ilk) or a BCCS/GT hybrid scenario pulled from my Faded Glory setting.

I already have the GenCon 2006 dates blocked on my calendar...I just need to make sure nothing else interferes!

I will definitely participate in some ENWorlder games next year. I heard nothing but great things from Crothian's Orc and Pie as well as Rel's game. D20 Mafia? I don't know if I can get into that. I am a huge Sopranos/Godfather/Goodfellas fan, but I just don't know about it. I'll have to do some research on the game. If it is pretty authentic and there is some history there, I might enjoy it.

Dogs in the Vineyard - this has some real possibilities but I am wondering if the tone is what I want out of a game at a con. laughing through this seems like such wrongbadfun and I want a lighthearted, fun game. The system is awesome but more of a campaign oriented thing than a fun one-shot.

I've seen these rules used in a BRILLIANT Jedi Academy/Star Wars game.

Tony DiGerlamo spends a huge amount of time tracing the Mob all the way from the Scilian Vespers 1282 to modern day. Tony (aka Mr. D) even has classes and roleplaying hints for the various eras of "This Thing of Ours". Tony is from Philly and I played in a couple of his pickup games at Origins, it was awesome fun. I can do a good accent when I want to, my mom's side of the family is from South Jersey. I would set in the Classic Mafia era (50s, 60s, 70s). wicked fun :)

Check out the game at Living Room Games, I also am a huge fan of Mob movies (Goodfellas, Hoffa, Godfather, etc.) and immediately loved the tone. highly recommended

hmmm, that makes me think ...

I am leaning towards Conan OGL at this point, DitV and even IH to a lesser degree (being OGL based) means I would have to teach a lot of rules, and ... inspiration just struck

/me reaches for his notecards ;)
