I don't think using bigger weapon is a way to go, especially if the method gives you some kind of attack penalty (Monkey Grip).
IMHO Oversized Two-Weapon Fighting feat works best when you are using a spiked heavy shield as your off-hand weapon (with Improved Shield Bash feat). This combo works very well with Tempest prestige class, mainly when you are mixing fighter levels. You need Weapon Focus tree and similar feats only for Spiked Heavy Shield. Then you can use whatever weapon in your primary hand and apply those weapon specific feats.
But anyway, in case of your PC, my recommendation is to take some full-BAB prestige classes with additional sneak attack dice, such as Streetfighter (Complete Adventurer) or Nightsong Enforcer (same book). You want to hit often and hard, aren't you?
Dread Commando is good. But sudden strike is a little bit harder to use comparing to sneak attack.
