D&D 5E Preview Witchlight's New Rabbit People

You can take a look at the harengons, a rabbit-themed race in the upcoming Wild Beyond the Witchlight, over at D&D Beyond.

Harengons are medium or small humanoids with a bonus to initiative, Dexterity saving throws, and a 'rabbit hop' which lets them jump up to five times their proficiency bonus without provoking opportunity attacks.

Creature Type. You are a Humanoid.

Size. You are Medium or Small. You choose the size when you select this race.

Speed. Your walking speed is 30 feet.

Hare-Trigger. You can add your proficiency bonus to your initiative rolls.

Leporine Senses. You have proficiency in the Perception skill.

Lucky Footwork. When you fail a Dexterity saving throw, you can use your reaction to roll a d4 and add it to the save, potentially turning the failure into a success. You can’t use this reaction if you’re prone or your speed is 0.

Rabbit Hop. As a bonus action, you can jump a number of feet equal to five times your proficiency bonus, without provoking opportunity attacks. You can use this trait only if your speed is greater than 0. You can use it a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

When you create a harengon or fairy using the rules from The Wild Beyond the Witchlight, you can choose to increase one ability score by 2 and another by 1, or choose to increase three different scores by 1. Further, you know Common and will choose one other language to learn.

I'm all for getting rid of dwarves, elves, and halflings, and rolling them into the human stat block. You get to choose beard, pointed ears, or shortness as a racial feature.

This would leave more room for things that are actually different like warforged or myconids.
Isnt Warforged just a Humanoid with Construct Type? (Construct Resilience, Unhealable)
Upgrade Traits: Integrated Armour

So, what I'm hearing is that we need to get dinosaurfolk next
There were rules for PC saurials in 2e, and with Dragonbait having made an appearance in Tomb of Annihilation, they could definitely update them for 5e if they wanted to (which is the deciding factor there...)

EDIT, and I see several other posters beat me to this lol...

Now I can FINALLY have that Tortle v Harengon race that I've been wanting to hold.
Hmmm. Both of them have the same speeds, but the Rabbit Hop would give them a boost (that is, if it doesn't count as movement, which currently isn't clear).

Better yet, lets make the race between a Tortle Monk (Master Oogway) and a Harengon Rogue (Bugs Bunny is definitely a Swashbuckler, right?)!

Both classes can dash as a bonus action, but it takes Ki for Master Oogway to dash, while Bugs Bunny can do it whenever he wants. However, Monks get a flat bonus to their speed, anyways, so this would be difficult. Might come down to how long the race is in the first place. . .

The answer, is to make Tortle's slower. :p

Everyone thinking of sexy anime girls with rabbit ears.

Meanwhile I'm in my own little corner trying to figure out how to make a D&D Harengon version of the Easter Bunny from Rise of the Guardians.

.....and now I want to make characters for all the guardians.

What about anime boys?

I guess the "furry" or antropomorphical animals are being designed as PC races because they could be easy to sell toys, and the kemonomimi ("animal ears"), girls with some animal traits are popular among the otaku manganime fandom.

And WotC has to desgin them now because these to be created by 3PPs, and even being published in the SRD.

And I believe some day the creatures from Gamma World will be added within the D&D multiverse.

And why not? Can you say "Rocket Racoon is unecessary in the Guardians of the Galaxy". Always there is a player who wants to be a different character in the same way lots of people want to wear different fashion.
