Previews - Sandstorm, Deathknell, d20 Past

In other words, I agree. I bet that druid doesn't even have Beastmaster... (I want a Beastmaster 6 for my basilisk.)

Hmm... I'm not too sure about that. This is a 200 point set, and it's a rare figure.

Cheers!

Well, I think that both Races of the Wild and Lost Empire's of Faerun are releasing in the next week or so.

Actually, it is released around here. Mine was sent on its way today, and I expect it on saturday, maybe monday.

Why is the Druid bad?

Cheers!

I only use the minis for RPG. With the exceptions of Harbinger and Dragoneye (of which I own a bunch), I have bought at least 1 case for each set. By doing so, I have so many "humans" that I have reached a point where having more becomes a waste of money for me. I also do not want to spend time trading to get what I want.

I made the mistake of preordering aberrations, and I was inundated with these character-types of minis. I didn't need *ANY* of them. (In fact, aberrations was the first case with which I had a major case of "buyers remorse" afterwards.) I was not going to order a case of DeathKnell, but the first few previews have convinced me to do so.

There are over 20 rares in a set, and I will be buying 12 boxes (1 case). I would like to know that 12 out of 12 rares that appear in that case will be of unique value to me (as in something I don't already have lots of). Should I choose to buy additional boxes, I would like those rares to be uselful (and special) as well.

I shudder to think that I may decide to buy a box here or there and end up with the druid (or other human) being the rare.

That sounded like you actually preferred the druid was (un)common instead of rare. Wouldn't such a thing end up in having more druids at the end?

Little teaser

Plus, he didn't show us anything from Lords of Madness. I think that book is going to be very sought-after. Tease us a bit!

It seems to me he's teasing you real good! Here you are, clamoring for more info... :D

Cheers!

I'd prefer it wasn't in there at all. But--if they have to be in there, I'd like them to be uncommon. In a typical case, I get (approximately) 4 of each common, 2 of each uncommon, and 12 unique rare figures.

To me, the "prize" of the box is the rare figure. The secondary market provides common and uncommon minis at, IMO, reasonable prices. To purchase a "rare" figure on the secondary market, the cost us usually the same or significantly more than an entire box. Thus, the value of the rare (to me) must be special. In order for me to justfiy (or, more honestly, feel good about) buying a box (or case), I'd like to know that every rare will have value to me. Creatures like the blue dragon, the griffon, even the spectre, are great becasue they don't yet exist in any of the mini sets. There are so many humans available that to make a human one of the special "rares" has significantly less appeal for me.

I agree with Shilsen - no, that's DaveMage (damn standard Pics ;):p)to some extent. Rares should either be cool monsters, or, if humanoid, they should sport not only nice stats for skirmish, but should be something special, something "cool". Good example: Mordenkainen. He looks cool with that staff, and has nice stats as well. Bad example: Skullsplitter. "No rare in my booster?" "Hm... here's a guy with an axe." "Yea, great. Now help me find that rare, it seems to have fallen on the floor or something" "No, that guy IS the rare". I admit that it looks good, but it doesn't quite manage to put me in mind of rares (especially when I see Beholders, Mind Flayer Telepaths, or the like)

Every single class has had at least one common miniature, even exotic stuff like psion (see Blue), except for druids who are always rare.

REALLY looking forward to Sandstorm and D20 Past... :)

d20 Past, OK, but I'm going to skip Sandstorm. I get most of Wizards d20 Material, but I'm not going into Eberron (enough Campaign Settings already) and the whole "wheater books". So no Frostburn, no Sandstorm, no Rainy Sunday Afternoon, or whatever.

I love making terrain and weather a big part of my adventure challenges, so these books are right in my wheelhouse - plus I'll be able to use Frostburn and Sandstorm for my d20 Past campaign, so there's a sort of synergy to the whole thing that's very pleasing... :)
