Pricing for a custom ring of enlarge

An interesting comparison could be made with the ring of minor spell storing which stores 3 levels of spells, and so could hold 3 copies of the enlarge spell for 18,000gp.

What you want is less flexible than that but doesn't have to be recharged by pumping spells back into it. My gut feeling is that 12,000gp would be fair for something that increases your base unarmed damage and gives you 10ft reach several times a day.

The main reason it cost so much, as far as I know, was that in 3e, there were no items or spells aside from Righteous Might or Polymorph that could change your size category, and therefore something that did such was a rare, and seemingly powerful thing. In 3.5, however, they made it into a 1st-level spell.

It was a first level spell in 3.0 as well wasnt it?, i dont remember. Other thatn that the ring also gives double the str modifier than a normal enlarge spell. I still think its a bit much. Like Plain Sailing said, just get a minor ring of spell storing, which would be of better use than the Ring of growth period.

Yes, but it couldn't make you a bigger size category. My point was that no spell, aside from Righteous Might, made you a bigger size category- including Enlarge- but in 3.5, the made a 1st-level spell (Enlarge Person) that DOES make you a bigger size category. That's why it shouldn't cost as much as it did.

K thanks. Btw i am guessing that the str modifier from enlarge is a size mofier right? then it would stack with girdle of strom giant strength or gauntels of ogre power right? If thats the case i would see why the ring from savage species would cost so much. But in all honestly i think it is way too costly. The only reason i see if possible costing so much would be because it gives it a +4 instead of a +2 to str.

By the guidelines in the DMG is that actually correct pricing or not?

Savage Species has a Ring of Growth, which specifically increases the wearer (ANY wearer, regardlessof type) to the next size category "up", on command, once per day for several minutes. It costs 18,000gp.

For now, I ruled that the item costs 2000 gp x # of uses per day. That's based on the x5 cost "rule" from potions. From what others have said, that might still be too cheap.

I don't have Savage Species to examine. I did consider a Ring of Spell Storing for comparison as someone else mentioned previously. The SS ring is very flexible and almost any downtime at all can easily give a caster in the party a chance to recharge it with whatever seems most useful. Thus, I think a ring with fixed, though self-recharging enlarge person applications should be worth quite a bit less.
