Primal Power Excerpt - Stonefire Rager

The first excerpt from Primal Power is out, the introduction to the barbarian section and a new fire-based barbarian paragon path called the stonefire rager. The most interesting part of the excerpt in my opinion is the mention of the two new builds, the thunderborn barbarian (I'm guessing a controller sub-build) and the dual wielding whirling barbarian (already spoiled by the WWDDGD pre-gen).

They didn't put up the usual "Preview/excerpt schedule" like they have for the last few previews. Mind you, I know it's never actually promised nor something i'm entitled to, I just got used to it after the last few so it was something i right away noticed as not being there.

As for the preview itself, it seems exceptionally fitting for a goliath barbarian. i know i'd be scared to run in to a goliath who was dripping molten rock instead of sweat as he came charging at me .. ;)

The image turned me down... I mean, a dwarven molten rock barbarian? And then when people say 4E is videogamey Wotc don't know why...

A dwarven molten rock barbarian is "videogamey"?

Why?

I'm with Dannager on this one. Stoneform effects are a pretty common fantasy trope: You could dig up half a dozen or more novels written in the last 50 years that used them long before there was so much as an Atari.

Maybe it's just the suggestion that flashy visual = video game?

Stoneform effects are indeed common in fantasy, used that a lot on Baldur's Gate (videogame) and it felt ok to me.

But as soon as I saw that dwarf the first thing that comes to my mind (no kidding) was this:

Not even close to that dwarf, but that's how it feels to me. World of Warcraft Ragnaros was my second thought.

Maybe magma heroes are common ground in fantasy (and maybe I'm not that into this kind of traditional fantasy) but when applied to what I think a D&D barbarian should be, IMHO, it deserves an "epic fail lolz"...

Yeah, I know that my barbarian should be Fighter's Battlerager but I can't stop thinking that this doesn't look like Conan at all.

Short answer: hated the image, ignored the article, won't allow on my games, life moves on.

hehe, I was going to make a tongue-in-cheek "WOTC made D&D a videogame" comment but based on the duel wielding whirling barbarian, which sounds like a import from the barbarian class from Diablo II (III as well but that's not out yet, unfortunately). (edit: how do I use spoiler tags. pic is kinda big)

The first thing I thought of when I saw that pic was:
