Abolish an Ancient Evil Threatening Devastation in this Adventure for the World's Greatest Roleplaying Game

Called by the Elder Elemental Eye to serve, four corrupt prophets have risen from the depths of anonymity to claim mighty weapons with direct links to the power of the elemental princes. Each of these prophets has assembled a cadre of cultists and creatures to serve them in the construction of four elemental temples of lethal design. It is up to adventurers from heroic factions such as the Emerald Enclave and the Order of the Gauntlet to discover where the true power of each prophet lay, and dismantle it before it comes boiling up to obliterate the Realms.

An epic adventure for characters levels 1 - 15, the Elemental Evil story arc, Princes of the Apocalypse provides everything a Dungeon Master needs to create an exciting and memorable play experience.

Includes new elemental spells and the element-touched genasi as a new playable race.

Adventure design and development by Sasquatch Game Studio LLC.

Dungeon Masters purchasing this module can use it to run the adventure with very little prep, other than reading through the adventure in advance. The contents of the story are indexed and linked, where appropriate. Combat encounters and boxed text are preloaded and ready to drop onto maps and into the chat window with a few clicks. Nearly everything has been optimized and streamlined for ease of play online.

This Module Includes

  • the entire contents of Princes of the Apocalypse adventure
  • image handouts that can be shared with players collectively or individually
  • maps containing information for the Dungeon Master (DM) only and with all locations pre-linked to story entries which may contain additional DM notes, boxed text, encounters, images and treasure parcels
  • maps with all hidden information removed and resized for use as tactical combat maps
  • tokens for many of the monsters in the module. When no token is available, a letter token is used to represent the NPC
  • XP for encounters that can be dragged to the party sheet and awarded to the players as they complete them
  • Searchable monster indexes by CR, type and in alphabetical order

Is it possible to use FG just as a GM virtual assistant (virtual adventure with notes and monsters, maps with fog, etc) but without the player having to use the vtt too ?

I am using it like this for my phadelver campaign with my kids, it is awesome. Easier than using the book, the game is all TotM and battlemat, but I use FG for everything I need.

Pota does include players guide which you can show to the players

I just bought the module and I'm impressed, particularly as i spent hours building my own Hoard of the Dragon Queen module. The maps are great, much better than the maps in the actual book when viewed on a big screen. saying that I would never just buy a FG offiical module to run a game, I need to sit down on a sofa and read a book or a PDF to prep properly for a game, I don't want to to do it at a desk on a computer. Also you still need to do some extra prepin fantasy Grounds to run the game. The module only includes maps in the book so it doesn't have maps for some of the starter dungeons and encounters in chapter six and as the drawing tools in FG aren't that good you are going to have to make or find your own. Also some of the NPC tokens are represented by letter tokens so if you don't like that you have to be able to find your own. The module contains no advice about how to find and place your own tokens and maps into Fantasy grounds or even warns you that you may need to. Its not hard to do this and there is plenty of advice on the FG forums about how to do it but considering the number of DM's with no previous experience of FG or any other VTT for matter who will be buying this its a bit of a home goal by the Smiteworks. Similar mistakes exist in the other official DnD FG modules the most annoying being that the generic starter PC's haven't been set up fully. It would of been nice if the designer had spent an extra half an hour setting up proper effects/macro's for al the special abilities and spells and it would of given players and DM's good examples for future reference.

I have only used FG so far as a pretty Roll20, and not bought any adventure modules. I use the books at my computer and it works well (mostly TotM).

Buuuttttt... seeing as PotA is only $34... If I buy the FG PotA adventure, do I need to buy the book too? Is enough info included in the FG module to run the adventure - all the background stuff, etc?

Or do I need both the book and the FG module... in which case it is getting rather costly..

All of the content from the printed book is included, but the organization is different and meant more for playing through it online. I personally prefer to read through a printed book in advance of running my game through FG, but your mileage may vary. It also probably doesn't help that I'm a bit of a collector and like to have all the books on my shelves.
