one problem with all this.....jesus was a real person. you can debate his divinity all that you want, but he walked this earth. he lived.

the fact that some people think that elves, fey and dragonkin are real is what perpetually keeps me in the d&d closet.

*sigh*

it's just a game, people. there's no such thing as pixies, elves or dragons.

that last analogy about jesus with an uzi is just plain weird, too.

I was just stating, that to some of us, Elves and Dragons and Nature Spirits are a very real, tangible presence, we use them to cast our spells the way Christians use Prayer. Its understandable that someone might get upset.

<Edit> Just to add another point: Rituals for Wiccans are a standard part of the US Army Chaplain's Handbook. The military recognises that some people do believe in the Fae, and that its just as valid as any other recognised, tax-exempt faith.

I don't think it's a bad idea to get the little sister to try D&D (assuming Moe's owed the favour, rather than doing her one). If she doesn't enjoy it, she can back out.

My fiance bought the new Dungeon magazine when he went home for Easter. He talked his little sister and her husband into trying D&D for the first time. His sister played a female dwarven barbarian who bull-rushed a halfling spellcaster, picked him up and kissed him instead of hacking at him. She had fun and finally understood her brother's hobby. His brother-in-law enjoyed himself and asked to play again.

Maybe Moe's sister won't enjoy it, but she'll at least understand what D&D's about and that's a good thing.

This is true, and I should have been more clear. Sometimes you do have to call in favors to get people to try new things that they will like, and that's ok. Too often though I've seen DMs badger their friends and relatives into playing, and that always results in a poor game, so I would still advise not pushing people into it too much.

Moe, as far as believing in elves, to each their own, live and let live, etc.

But if your friend is going to have strong beliefs that aren't popular, she could do herself a favor by lightening up. If the Player's Handbook upset her, she's in for a lifetime of frustration. I hope for her sake she can learn to take it all in stride.

Re: This is going to get me slapped, but...

ROFLMAO!!!!

That is just too funny and pathetically sad at the same time!

This had to have just brought this troll thread (which I rate a 10 already) up to at least a 12.

To some of us, Elves, Fey, Dragonkin, etc, are very real.

As real as Jewish carpenters who walk on water and heal with a touch, or as real as a burning bush in the desert.

So she may be Wiccan, or Pagan, or some other faith where in effect, you just handed her the equivelent of a picture of Jesus with an Uzi.

Re: Re: Re: This is going to get me slapped, but...

I will repeat here what a friend pointed out long ago. 9 out of 10 times Wicca as a religion is nothing more than a scam to get fat women laid by sknny geek guys. ;)

What?

Wait wait wait....insulting?

Come on...it's a "fantasy" game. How can she be insulted and feel hurt for a group of people that NEVER existed?

That's like saying I'm insulted with the "Hungry Hungry Hippos" game 'cause it portrays Hippos as unremorseful eaters of ivory marbles. Those poor ivory marbles (sob)...they never had a chance!

Sheesh...

If it was me, and this woman was in my group, I would (in order)...

1. Laugh
2. Ask, "are you serious?"
3. Laugh again
4. Kick her out the door.

The world is full of RPers and lovers of fantasy. She doesn't represent a "precious" commodity. Find someone a little more stable.

See what I mean?

Of course, judging by Moe's website on his profile, this is probably indeed nothing but a troll anyway.

Oh, forgot to add, as for the whole favor with my sister thing, I owed her favor, and letting her play is how I'm repaying it. Should have specified...

PS: What is a troll? Someone said this thread was so I'm curious.

PPS: Does that mean he doesn't like my website? :(

And I have Wiccan friends, most of whom are married couples with Wiccan children who claim that 9 times out of 10, Christianity is an excuse to spit on anyone not a white Italian.

I know, I'm going to get a warning. Don't bother, Doc Moriarty made these boards intolerable for me back before the switch when I was Erok. He's done it again.

Doc, enjoy your moral superiority. Good luck with your loaves and fishes and all.

Anyone wants to contact me, my email is in my profile.
