Problems at the gaming table.

Our group is playing through the Sunless - Bastion series and we just finished The Standing Stone. The problem is that the party wizard refuses to make items for a certain player. He'll make items left and right for everyone else. It also extends to the point where he won't cast a single spell on this player while everyone else has a Bull Strengths, Cats Graces, Endurance, Stone Skin, etc. I feel that this will be the downfall of our party because of the lack of cooperation on his part. As to the reson for this arguement. The Bard has been in the group since first level and somewhere in the early modules we found a Ring of Wiz I and since the bard was the only arcane spellcaster in the group at the time he took it. The guy who is now running the wizard started of running a Sorceror the switched to a Fighter/Monk and once he realized that due to his level he took in Paladin he would be taking a xp penalty he switched to a wizard. Aparently he feels that his wizard in entitled to the ring because he claims he could make better use of it as the wizard and that the Bard who had it long before the Wizard joined the group should give it up. Well the Bard did offer to sell it to the Wizard at a fair price but the Wizard wanted it for free. I've heard that good teamwork will be important in the later modules and the lack of it between the Bard and Wizard will likely be the death of us all. The Bard is likely still willing to sale or trade the ring to the Wizard at a fair price but the Wizard still wants it at no charge.

Unreasonable player

The wizard player needs to get his head out of his a$$. Why should the bard give up a personal possession that is of great value and utility to him without some form of compensation? That's like me telling a friend that he should give me his Porsche because I drive it better than he does. Ridiculous!

Here's a suggestion. Introduce an NPC that could make great use of one of the wizard's items. I don't know what he's got, but if he had bracers +3 or a ring of mage armor I'd use a monk for example. After a short bit of adventure, have that new character DEMAND the wizard's item, because he could use it more effectively. See how the player responds.

If the light bulb goes on things should get better. If OTOH he doesn't "get it" at this point, he should be playing a barbarian because there's no way he can adequately RP a high INT character :)

The Cleric (Myself) and the Archer and even the DM feel that the Wizard has no right to the ring. The wizard would go as far as to watch the Bard get killed and then take then ring from his dead body. We're trying to stay out of it in hope that the Bard will work through this or that the guy who plays the Wizard will give up on the ring or the character. Personally I hope the guy ends up moving back where he came from and leaves the group. Gaming was better without him.

don't you think you should tell your DM this?

there's a huge difference between a PC vs PC conflict and a player vs player conflict. i've had to deal with problem players in the past and something should be done about your situation. maybe the DM can straighten this player out, or if worse-comes-to-worst, ask that player to leave.

ouch

Sounds like more than just in-game issues. I would talk to the player out of game to see if it can be resolved that way. Players that don't get along as friends out of game don't last long in my group. I don't know how it is in yours.

Things can get hairy if it is a "friend of a friend" situation, especially if that other person is in the group...

Absolutely! If the player can't work with the group, he shouldn't be playing with you. Sometimes its hard to kick people out, but this is supposed to be *fun*. I'd ask the DM to have a talk with the player, and if he can't solve the problem, to *end* the problem.

I think the rest of the group feels the same way I do. I hoping everything will be resolved by the end of the year. Mostly I needed to vent and get some other people to listen to this. So thanks.

Your the party cleric so to a good degree you can cover the party buffing. So start buffing the bard since the wizard won't.

Then start charging the wizard for cure spells cast on him. If you get the rest of the party behind you for one session where you play as mercenary as he does then maybe his his will retract from his arse.

If this doesnt work then consider talking to everyone minus him one day and see how they feel about him as a player.

it sounds your problem player may be moving away (?).

i would still recommend talking to your DM and/or the rest of the group now. take Surfal's advice, this is supposed to be fun
