Problems with CDs and Disc drives

First Post
I just bought a new laptop. It has a multifunction disc drive (DVD-RW & CD-RW).

I"ve been having problems reading certain CD-ROM discs with it. It seems to be mainly CD-R discs containing PDF files that I burned from my older PC. The software I used was Roxio. When I put the discs into the laptop, they drive doesn't read the disc at all.

Other discs seem to read normally. Software in CD Rom format reads. Audio CDs work fine, and CDs with audio files work as well.

Some other CDs with PDFs read normally as well.

I'm wondering what could be the reason my computer isn't reading the discs, and what the solution is. Is the problem the software I used, or the kind of disc I used?

Thanks in advance.

I had the same problems with stuff that I had burned using the old EZ CD Creator software. But in my case the drive would read the cd, but would not read all of the folders on the cd. I have since gone to using Nero for all my burning...never had the problem again...
If you can maybe take one of the cd's that will not read and reburn on your old system with different software...I think you can download a trial version of Nero...
If you can use the same media the first time you reburn...if it still wont read then try a different media...

The various CD burning software doesn't seem to always be 100% compatible. I've had similar problems with trying to use Nero to read CD-RW discs originally wirtten with Easy CD Creator. Doesn't help that Nero's RW reading extension tends to crash more often than not.

If you've got a way to connect the two computers directly, your best bet is to read the CDs off the old machine and either reburn on the new one or store them on the hard drive.
