Product Hint for 2007?

First Post
I picked up a sentence in Complete Mage, when discussing power sources for Fey, which states "The increase in mortals who wield fey-given power, however, suggests that the realm of faerie might be awakening from a long slumber". I'm not going to quote the whole paragraph, but I'm curious about whether there might be a Monster book for Fey, akin to Draconomicon, Libram Mortis etc. being developed for next year?

That would be quite cool....a lot of interesting things could be done with a book on Fey. And with books like the Complete Wild, and new fey in the MM's, maybe they're testing out things they could create in such a book..

Or maybe it's just wishful thinking..

Might be cool...

I don't know about you guys, but I find that Fey have a remarkably short lifespan in my games. They usually get clobbered within a few rounds... before they get a chance to say "hey, guys, I can go invisible at will!" they're killed by the 2nd level archer's use of Rapid Shot.

Really, they get killed pretty damn fast. I think there's a reason they're not often used in published adventures, except as plot devices. Personally, I wouldn't buy a monster book based around them... but then, I have no desire to buy the current books out there, either.

Just my twocents.

The problem is that they have a really low hit dice, and lots and lots of spell-like abilities. However, when you can only cast one per round, only one or two of those spell-like abilities are really worth anything.

Either fae need the ability to use more than one spell-like ability in the round, or they need some sort of faerie glamour effect that gives attacks against them a miss chance, or something... or else they'll always be relegated to having short lifespans, and so be nothing more than plot devices in the game.

Or you need to use a lot of them in one encounter...

Which, yes, doesn't always work well since many of them are described as being solitary.

Erm where/when was a Complete Wild mentioned? I know of Complete Scoundrel and Complete Champion for 2007, but I've not heard anything about a Complete Wild before.

sounds like the release of Complete and Utter Crap is just around the corner just in time for the Holidays.

i'm still holding out for the Complete Idiots Guide to d02 Roleplaying

Fey are cool, but I can't see using them in a straight up battle. I see them more as a real threat when they have some backup. A fey book would certainly be cool, something I'd consider purchasing, but I'd really like to see a book on Giants and Titans. I'd pretty much have to own that book.

amusing consecutive posts

An effect that gives attacks against them a miss chance? What, like "hey, guys, I can go invisible at will!", you mean? :D :p
