One idea is that could we get a Social Defence score as well, for a 'social combat' mechanic? This simulates long debates and arguments and would be useful for games around diplomacy and politics. Sort of like Piccard giving one of his moral speeches, or when he's debating against Q, or when the councils in B5 are having their debates and you want to wear down an ambassador to push your policy across. It moves social interactions away from one roll, into something with a bit more excitement and complexity.
You can certainly roleplay out these interactions without a mechanical system so it should probably be optional, but it's handy when PCs are playing characters are far more socially adept than they are in real life.
