Alaric,

I believe that Gygax wrote that drow rhymes with cow. As for rhyming with crow, this would also let drow rhyme with low and blow.

So, we could have sentences like "That was a low drow blow." As well as ones that Eric's Grandmother might not like.:D

Guess I'll post for the Drow rhymes with now side.

The Drow rhymes with slow group seem to be the stereotypical vocal minority.
Very vocal, but very minor.

:p

Do your drow have treasure troves? Do they call other drow, "bro"? If the party rode in a horse cart, would it be the drow who drove? Do drow parents say, "If you want your drow to grow you have to let him go"? If a drow stubs his toe, does he say, "oh no"? Do drow live in the ghetto? If so, do the drow feel low?

I think I'm going to gag if I take this any further.
Drow rhymes with now forever!

bow and row both have two pronounciations.

bow of the boat. bow used for hunting.

row as in argument. row as with an oar.

maybe drow is the same.

drow of the underdark. drow of the forest.;)

Drow? I agree that it sounds more evil as in slow... anyway with our french accent Drow as cow sounds ridiculous... and Dark Elves have a special sense of humor. ( -> )

As for the Bulette, well, if it isn't a French-derived word...

It sounds french, and the -tte at the end is a french female-gender suffix (in french even chairs have an associated gender, for it to sound right). We pronounce it as other words in french:

Bul (not as in Bull, but as in luxury) - Lette (as in to let, only with a longer t in the end, somewhat like lett)

so Bu-lett... the final e is silent. As for Bou-lay, well, french is sound based, and their are no lay (lé) before double consonants.

Drow as in cow.

Each time this is brought up I shall tell the first time I heard the word, it was in a Jerry Lewis Dean Martin movie, Jerry holds up a sign and says DROW is WORD spelled backwards. :)
