Psionic Mindflayer CR Question.

Wow, you guys have some strange approaches to running your intelligent, at-will psionics monsters.

Mine generally hide and snipe. They have no reason to engage the party directly off the bat, because they typically realize they are not very good at taking damage. They therefore harass and disrupt the enemy's movements.

handy this is here, as i'm prepping a mindflayer for potential combat.

If i were to make the Psionic Mindflayer have an additional level of Psion (telepath), would it recieve a second layer of 1st level Psion (telepath) powers, or would it add these levels to its normal manifester level of 9?

You'd add the levels. It's possible that the MM has a clearer entry on the topic, but the only thing I found in the SRD was from the CR discussion in the "Improving Monsters" file: "A spellcasting class is an associated class for a creature that already has the ability to cast spells as a character of the class in question, since the monster’s levels in the spellcasting class stack with its innate spellcasting ability."

Note that other class-related stuff, such as bonus feats, would be linked to actual class levels, not counting the "virtual" levels the monster gets from its monsterness.
