Hi there.

The Everglide Gamingmat is without doubt the best mouse pad I have used in my entire life. Just playing around with the mouse pointer in the operating system is an extraordinary experience, not to mention playing computer games. The mouse literally FLOATS over the surface when you use this pad, it feels like the mouse levitates over the desk.

Icemat, Func Surface 1030 and other more expansive mouse pads can not compete with the Gamingmat. They are not even close.

The thing works with optical as well as ball mice. There is a specific model for optical mice, but it is worthless. The "standard" Gamingmat is so much better.

Highly recommended.

I stopped using mouse pads years ago once I built my own computer table... I just have to ask? What's the point of having one, really? My ancient ball mouse does fine on the top of my computer table, an no need to worry about sliding off the edge...

Agreed. I got the original Intellimouse Explorer right away back in 1999. You notice the difference in precision right away while playing FPS'. And if you don't have a good desk surface for the mouse, a nice, large, hard plastic mouse pad works wonders.

Isn't the entire point of an optic muse that you don't need a good desk surface? Just something it can get reliable imaging points on? Well, that and the lack of moving parts to break.

The only thing that my mouse will not work on are clear glass, and the clear plastic covers that I have on part of my desk. I have found that any sheet of paper will work as a mouse pad should I need to work on glass.

I have a wireless infrared mouse made by Microsoft, and I can use the mouse on my leg without any problems should I need to. (don't ask, just know that I have a a 1 1/2 year old daughter).

No one needs an optical mouse, nor does one need a good desk surface.

Think of it like driving a Ferrari. If you limit yourself to slow rural areas (sub-optimal mousing surface), your driving experience won't be much different than it would be with an ordinary car. However, once you get out on the open road (optimal mousing surface), you can experience all the power and precision the vehicle has to offer, and the benefits become readily apparent in a "demanding" driving experience (CAD work, competitive gaming, etc.).

Holographic mouse pads don't work very well, either, though the results are fairly amusing.
