Psionics-Love it or Hate It?

I'm approaching a new game where Psionics are the magic of the game world. Ive only dabbled with the system. What do you all think of psionics, easier than 2e or too complicated?

Very simple, though I see why many people drop Psionic Combat modes (it's something that really should be a variant). However, I do enjoy the combat modes, and allow them myself. It's a decently simple system, and the rolling to set DC is the only flaw with the normal psion. (I don't like to roll DC... it's just not... simple).

I hated Psionics in 2E, it was so overpowered, especially with the dark sun enhancements.

3E psionic I can stomach, as long as it is not different from magic.

Well while I wasn't sure before, I DO think any Psionics I run will have to use Slacerian influences, since the "Psionics are different" rule runs pretty rampant in this setting. That being said I DO like it since it make a THIRD option between Divine and Titanspawn.

You DID read my review right? By Slacerian influences I mean stuff like the Slacerian Language virus or Cultist of the Shade. That along with any psionic monsters will be in some way "touched" by the Slacerians.

Read it: Yes. Retain it: well, not everything. ;)

3E Psionics is psionics in name and theme only.
While 2E was not a good set of rules from a mechanical point of view, it covered what makes psionics psionical a lot better. The new version strikes me as magic mixed with comic-style psychic powers masquerading behind a whitewash of heavier psionic ideas.

However, the 3E system, for what it is, is both cool and very easy to use. I do think it has sucked the life and coolness from psionic combat, and I would either simplify that even more, or replace the system. I think Bruce Cordell is, was, or will be working on an alternate to psionic combat that would capture the mindscape style of battle better.

i bought the book, played a monk/rogue/duelist/psion (the dexterity related kind, been a whlie since i looked at this book) and have not used it since. it doesn't fit my games all that well. it is balanced fairly well with arcane and divine. slightly more complicated then arcane or divine but if your willing to do some simple adition and subtraction it works nicely. he had an ac of something like 35 naked i think. and a speed of 80. he was a thief by trade. i'm going to go make a new character. he he, the poor poor dm, i almost feel bad about unleashing these on him.
