Psionics?

Remembering some older threads recommending using ITCK to beef up Psionics some and make it more balanced, I picked it up the other day in preparation for a game I plan on running. Now that I have it, I'm wondering what all in there it is that people were really recommending? I'm not seeing too much change-wise, but I haven't read it too in depth yet.

There's a new power point progression chart for psions, and a variant for scalling the damage done by powers. It's all at the end. There's a few interesting feats and a prestige class (mabye 2) there, too...

OR you could run the module and let your PCs craft their own psionic dicipline. Most likely not what most people were thinking of, but far more fun!

Another big change is the secondary disciplines rules.

It isn't really possible to play a psion with Multiple Ability Dependency, without resorting to item dependency or munchkin combination. Secondary disciplines are a good cure for this.

what (Psi)SeveredHead wrote is the big one for me. Also check out the minds eye on the iwzards site, hey (Psi)SeveredHead has a link in the sig. It has some really good free psionic stuff. Constructor,Constructor,Constructor,Constructor,Constructor,Constructor,Constructor,Constructor. Uhm yes I like shapers.

I don't have ITCK, but the Mind's Eye is great (see SeveredHead's sig for link). It's a lot like a splatbook for Psionic classes, but it actually seems a bit stronger, so the classes end up pretty well balanced if you use it.

And yes, to support Shard, Constructors are great. The Shadow Adept is also pretty darn cool. Oh, and the Crystalsinger is very nice too, at least the first four levels. Arch Psion isn't bad either, although it's pretty difficult to keep three disciplines up.

They just posted a new update over Christmas that had 19 new Talents (some of which are VERY nice, I like Astral Spider), a set of Feats that let you trade extra Talent manifestations for other cool abilities (basically, they're the analogs of the Paladin feats like Divine Might, and are GREAT for Psychic Warriors), and a set of cheap items (200gp each) that let you use your Talent manifestations to cast Talents you don't know.

I've run psionics with and without ITCK and our decission was to use the ITCK variants. However, we made the secondary discipline a feat rather than automatic and adopted the power scaling.

So far so good. The Psion pulls off stuff the same way a sorcerer would but is unmistakenly a psionic character.

If you're worried about the variance causing overpowered psionics, I can be a voice to ease your distress. In fact it adds a slight element that helps equalize the power struggle between sorcerer and Psion yet gives them a versatility factor that makes them unique.
