Psychic Warrior in Scarred Lands? Ideas?

Well what ever the half orc does, he might want to watch himself. Charduni clerics often carry warscepters. Those things HURT! :) In any case, I look forward to seeing how you resolve this.

Btw Joseph, I'm kind of glad you DIDN'T give them Power Resistance. Even without it, they still have enough power on their side to deal with it (Since they have pretty high saves anyway! :) )

Hi,

This is some great info posted here about Psionics in the Scarred Land, and we've heard from some of the most knowledgable people on the subject.

I would like to point out a couple of things:

Psychic Warriors aren't that strong psionically. Many of their abilities are things for buffing themselves, rather than going toe to toe with psionic monsters.

I had a player take a psy. warrior in another 3e game, and all his powers were internal. It meant they had little effect on the game, because they just improved his warrior abilities.

Also, I would highly recommend having a look at "Of Sound Mind", an adventure useful for introducing psionics to a campaign, and also the Psionics Toolkit, which a supplement designed to help a DM introduce psionics to a campaign. You might not need the latter, since you are just starting the campaign, but it could be useful to read through and think things through.

Good Luck,

Duncan

Also note that the gods don't necessarily know what psionics are, either; their clerics sure as heck won't.

There are myriad strange and unexplained powers in the Scarred Lands - who can tell if one half-orc has been tainted by the Slarecians, or is simply heir to some other kind of legacy?

Right. For he could know, the poor half orc is suffering from some kind illness or heck could even be mistaken for a sorcerer! :)

btw Joseph, since you're here, how long do I have to wait until I can see Hornsaw? ;)

I've essentially, copied everything that has appeared on this thread so far, trying to boil it down (deciding which directions to take). However, it is becoming clear to me that the Scarred Lands would greatly benefit from a Psionics supplement discussing how psionics comes about and the affects they have on Scarn. At the risk of hijacking my own thread, is there anything along those lines in the pipeline, perhaps similar to the upcoming "class books"?

And, if so, is there any chance that some of us freelancers could contribute?

IIRC there will be a "classbook" for psionics, if the others sell well enough. See if you can find the info about the books on the www.Swordsorcery.com Scarred Land's forum.

As for whether they want contributions, I've no idea :-)

As Duncan was kind to point out, there IS the possibility for Psion and Psychic Warrior Handbook. That being said, if you are a Freelancer AND want to work on the book, I'd suggest you email either Joseph Carriker or Anthony Pryor about your intent. They can then inform you as to whether they would accept any input on such a book. Just be warned, I have a feeling that Jeff Tabrum will probably have a hand in this book since he DID do the chapter on Psionics in R&R2. That is, if they decide the book is viable.

Doh! You're right Joseph! Sorry Jeff and Mike! I meant Mike Gill!

Anyway what about Hornsaw, will it be out in October or not?

Thanks for all of the help. I've decided to keep psionics exactly as presented in RR II.

The half-orc psychic warrior in the party received his powers when a mumbling wizard wandered into the tribe, speaking some unintelligible gibberish (the Slarecian language virus). Soon everyone was speaking it making them completely helpless when a band of Sutak nearly wiped all of the tribe out. The half-orc recovered from the disease a few days later. He was now alone and had amazing mental abilities.

Years later (Today), he and a Charduni cleric encountered a caravan in the Ukradan traveling under the banner of Calastia towards Dunahnae. They noticed that the leader of the caravan had an unusual shadow. They helped "save" the caravan from some thieves (the captain muttered something about "being vigilant" and protecting a "muse"). To show his appreciation, the captain allowed the two party members to remain in the camp, where they woke up weakened the next morning, one with some memories missing. The next night, the party, still in the camp, was attacked again, only this time the shadow grafted itself to the psychic warrior. With the help of the cleric, the psychic warrior had a light source that extended beyond thirty feet, preventing the Slarecian shadowman that had grafted itself onto the psychic warrior reaching the darkness or anyone else. As the psychic warrior and Charduni attacked the shadowman, the psychic warrior heard a voice in his head. One of an ancient language that he had only heard one other time, long ago. The same gibberish language he had heard before his tribe was killed. "Let me go if you want to live." said the voice.

You should have seen the player's face. He looked like he was hit by a train. Heheheh. Thanks again, everyone.
