Ptolus at Amazon?

Actually, Bobitron, you can also add a budget, the desire to save as much money as possible, and raising 3 kids to the list of why Amazon and a discount is desired. Wanting a discount is not a bad thing. It saves me money. That is always a good thing.

You -do- understand that this basically mean that you believe people who buy all their books at Amazon shouldn't play at all, because by playing, they are hurting the hobby?

Edit: I just realized after posting this that you might just be talking about Ptolus, which isn't (apparently) available at Amazon, and not about books in general, in which case I apologize.

Edit2: To clarify, I really, really don't care about the mythical hurt to LGS I make when I buy books at Amazon, since I don't even have a LGS, and the only place I possibly hurt is Waldenbooks, which is a big corporation in it's own right, and isn't really hurt by my not buying books there that often (I still -do- buy books there once in a while, impulsiively, much to my chagrin).

LOL! I appreciate the edits, and yes your edits prove that you and I understand each other, as I don't believe the first statement at all. Truth be told, I get 90% of my books from amazon, the rest I get at cons that I go to. I rarely frequent FLGS's, mostly because they are not friendly. I think I would support the little guy if I felt like it was worth it but at least around here they make it hard to want to. I used to stop into a local place to buy minis but eventually got fed up with even that.

I don't think you have to support your local gaming store, but I also don't think that Monte should be chastised for his interest in doing so.

There is nothing wrong with that. But expecting to get a discount on everything is not the same thing. It sounds like people seem to believe they have a right to get it at a much lower price..

Especially since I would get it if Ptolus were being sold to Amazon. WW and Monte have very intentionally taken that away. At least have reduced the liklihood as much as they can.

Monte made his post about Amazon on June 6th. I don't think a comment made on what is really an obscure message board would have a noticeable impact on Amazon sales a month later.

My guess is that people saw it at Origins. There was a finished copy there, and it was pretty impressive.

Ok.

I'm officially screwed.

I was considering the possibility of ordering through Amazon at a higher price... even without the discount. (I just love Monte's work.)

But now I'm officially screwed.

How's that? You can always order it. You don't get charged unless/until it ships. Personally, I believe someone's going to end up with egg on thier face.

Anyway, I'm more intrested in the Warlords of the Accordlands Rpg books. They are awesome. Can't wait until mine come in.

It's their book, their choice. Monte has stated what he is doing and why, he's being very upfront about it. It's good to see someone take a stand and try to help the local stores. Could he have done more by not offering pre orders? Sure, but there is nothing hypocritical about not doing that.

I tried to steer away from that sentiment in my posts. I don't have that belief.

I'm saying just two things (well ok, a bit more, but mainly two):

1) It is Monte's decision, and he's free to sell it exclusively on shopping channel if he feels like it
2) His reason for shutting out Amazon sucks in my opinion

As for other people's beliefs - is it really out there to expect to get discounts on everything? Because that's the feeling you get from all the ads, websites, etc..

In any case it's not wrong to want discounts. A lot of people work for their money, and work really hard. Not utilizing that money to its full extent (this includes comparing prices) is, for some people, pissing their hard work away. Have someone else take profit from your work.

Now, I do all kinds of stupid stuff with my money, but the basic idea is to maximize the amount of money you get, and maximize the utility you get from that money.

It's an upside down world if that ever becomes a bad thing!
