Ptolus - Six Days Early!

edit: Ptolus has arrived!

I can't wait. I hate to wish my life away, particularly my vacation, but I really, really look forward to getting my hot little hands on this deluxe product.

The post above really requires no reply, but let me just say that I too am eagerly looking forward to it. Which is a bit suprising, because typically I do so much better with my own game worlds and my own adventures than I do running a game in a pregen world or pregen adventure. However, when I get it, and have a few weeks to digest it, I plan on wrapping up my current d20 M Pulp homebrew and running a gestault game in Ptolus with 2 players. Whether or not it will be the campaign included in the book, something I cobble together, or just a full blown homebrew in the setting I don't know yet. Time will tell. However, I like that angels and demons live in the city and everyone knows it. I will likely tie that into whatever I plan. Its just a matter of wait and see now.

I dunno. I just understand why everyone's going so crazy about Ptolus. I Heard some people at my FLGS talking about it in reverential tones... I just don't get it. What's the attraction?

You hardly ever see premium products for RPGs. Monte is a great designer, and he's put a lot of effort and thought into this one. So it may very well be also very good. And it is huge, so there will be alot of goodness.

For me a near 700 page quality RPG book is just too good to pass. Plus I've played Monte's Banewarrens (IMO one of the best 3E adventures) which gave a glimpse of Ptolus. It's a really interesting city to adventure in. Definately not the same-ole-same-ole, but then again that's a turn-off for part of the crowd.

When I started AD&D my DM had a thick binder of campaign material, inherited from the older, cooler players (only later did I realize that living with moms at 26 does not cool make ;)). I was always giddy with expectation what might spring out of that thick, worn-out binder. What adventures and strangeness might manifest? That's the same feeling I now have for Ptolus. Except with more quality, of course :D

I'm looking forward to it, too - but I have a huge pile of unread RPG books, which means that I am not counting the days towards it. I have more than enough things to read, and when it arrives, it arrives. I am content with that.

That weird. That was pretty much exactly what I was going to say. While I am looking forward to finally getting it I have a whole heap of RPG books that I haven't read. Plus I am also trying to DM a new campaign which will mean that I won't be using for Ptolus for at least a couple of months.

Of course, having said that when it arrives I will forget about all my other RPG books while I check out the latest "new shiny" that I've got. I'm sad like that! :D

4 weeks, 6 days to go

I'm looking forward to this because I'll be at GenCon to pick it up.

Peace and smiles :)

I, too, run homebrew exclusively, and just loot what I want from campaign specific books, but I believe that I'll use nearly all of Ptolus, probably as its own setting, rather (or as well as) in my own campaign.

Well here you go. Same thing here. I actually "had" Ptolus in my homebrew setting, and took it off the setting to be able to run the whole of Praemal (well that wasn't the only reason, but that was the last straw). I was wondering how I could make sense of it with the end of the Seven Spires, and I actually did. You can see that in the End Game summary I posted here. :)
