I played through a bit of A Paladin in Hell and I decided that Monte Cook was a good author for adventures. I read the 3.0 DMG, and became a devotee. I have yet to read anything from Malhavoc that I don't like. It's compelling, well-written, well-edited, and (with the exception of the print edition of the original Book of Eldritch Might) well illustrated.Wik said:I dunno. I just [don't] understand why everyone's going so crazy about Ptolus. I Heard some people at my FLGS talking about it in reverential tones... I just don't get it. What's the attraction?
Ptolus is Malhavoc to the nth degree. They went all out and did a completely innovative setting/sourcebook/super-module compatible with the brilliant Arcana Evolved, and playtested it for what, eight years? This is the world that D&D implies, but with bound-in cloth bookmarks, thoughtfully chosen illos, and a bonus CD stuffed with more bonus material than you can shake a +3 sword at.
This is a $120 D&D book worth buying.
