Ptolus - Support

I have looked through much of Monte's boards and website, and maybe I am not seeing it, but can someone clue me in on the support expected for the Ptolus project?

I know there is a Player's Guide that is relatively cheap and already available.
...

Cheap as in "free" -- at least for the pdf.

If Ptolus makes a truckload of money, there will probably be more, but that would probably be well in the future as I've gotten the idea that every idea Monty Cook has gotten re: Ptolus is in the initial release. This is over 1100 pages, after all.

I'm a fast reader, but this will be plenty for me.

Even if there were no overlap, this is the equivalent of one of WotC's big books and five of the smaller ones.

The Ptolus main book is massive enough that you can break the skull of anyone you hit on the back of the head with it.

What more do you want?

I think I'd have to see the book and all the details first before seeing if there's anything more that I want. Without knowing everything in it, how can someone possibly know what else they might want?

Expanding...

Well, I have to say I want it wrapped up in a nice bow and presented to me!

Like some of the older crowd on the board, I am in my mid thirties, my gaming group is all in the same age range. Most have kids, my wife and I are thinking of having kids. My time is limited, but I like to game when we can all get together.

So if my gaming group is interested in the product, I need to know how much the book encompasses. Making up a lot of starter material/adventure jump off points is not something that interests me highly (the end result of Dawnforge, the expected consequence of Wilderlands).

I know there is an adventure for the product. And that is fabulous, no complaints here and that is a big selling point for me. Banewarrens and Chaostech tie in...okay check I got that.
Again, any body have an idea of what additional material is being provided for pre-order? I don't want spoilers, or details. Just a very general overview. Business, NPC's, surrounding area, maps, art?

The Delver's Guild runs the gamut. We have NPCs (including the character that inspired the Dwarven Defender class), new locations (I like the Pointy Hat wizard bar), miscellaneous things for DMs (uses for vampire blood, bits of color to add to temples on the Street of One Thousand Gods) and so on. It's all useful enough that I sure hope it eventually comes out as a supplement a year or so after the big book is released.

This is what Ptolus is. Complete adventure material for levels 1-20 and one of the most detailed RPG cities ever, all in one giant book.

I read the Player's Guide last night and it was cool. i've already pre-ordered, based on 1) Arcana Evolved which just rocked. and 2) the online previews for Ptolus. That was enough to convince it will be a winner.

I don't like everything Malhavoc puts out, but most of it is great stuff that injects some real sense of fantasy back into my fantasy.

I know for those who pre-order, there is all kinds of additional material available. Without giving away anything that would compromise those who pre-ordered, what kind of additional material are we talking? Further fleshed out NPC's? Modules? Plot ideas? Artwork? What?

Pretty much all of the above. Not a lot of artwork, except for signs and symbols of this or that faction. But so far the Ptolus website for those who pre-ordered has detailed out NPCs, plot hooks, and factions.

I believe that your question is akin to asking if there will be future support of "Worlds Largest Dungeon" in that it is both a setting and an adventure path.

Personally I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that Ptolus will be of good quality.

That being said Malhavoc, seems to be falling into the "too many settings" trap IMHO.

Just when Arcana Evolved started to be a "well rounded playable world" they released Iron Heros.

I havn't seen any Arcana Evolved titles in over a year.

Now that Iron Heros has built up it's following the company has focused all it's attention on Ptolus.

I certainly hope Ptolus is everything people want it to be because it's likely that what you see is what you get.
