Published adventures- need recommendations

First Post
I'm going to be wrapping up a homebrew campaign I've been running sometime in the next few months (or so) and I'm not up to creating it all on my own any more.

What published material out there would you folks recommend? I'm looking for something along the lines of the RttToEE mega-mod, but other comments I've seen here indicate it's just a slog through one encounter after the next. A decent campaign setting with a pile of mods to back it up would work as well.

The Shackled City is out.

I'll be using 3.5 D&D

For 3.5, I don't know of too many large adventuers for low level encounters. I do know that Lost City of Barakus is for 1st level.

A mega adventure, Black Sails over Freeport is for 6th.

Best bet? Dungeon Magazine. It's 3.5, official, well illustrated, and fairly cheap.

PDF's may also be the way to go, but I don't know how many adventurers for 3.5 are out yet.

Almost all, if not all, of the Chronicles of Anyaka adventures are 3.5 compatible. There are 6 modules total now, taking characters from 4th-10th level (or whatever levels you want, being Xenogenic and all). There are also 3 more large modules coming out in the series, so you should be able to get up to around 17th or 18th level.

Tell us more about The Lost City of Barakus, please. It keeps popping up (as well as being sold out at some places) and it has gotten me intrigued. What can be expected of it? Is it site-based or centre piece-centred? Have there been any reviews?

It's similar to the Vault of Larin Karr (by W.D.B Kenower--the author of VoLK--and Bill Webb of Necromancer Games) in that it is as much of a campaign setting as an adventure. The PCs are going to have a lot of freedom in deciding what to do.

That said it is more site-based. It details a city, the surounding wilderness, many minor sites, and a large dungeon.

It is a hardback, 200+ pages (however the font is larger than most modules or other Necromancer products) and contain enough material to advance the characters from 1st to 5th level. The module is balanced for and recommends halving experience awards, so there is more content than a typical 1 to 5 arc.

Yes it may be hard to find. The original goal was apparently to release it at GenCon last year together with 3.5. I think the strategy was that it starts at 1st level, many new 3.5 campaigns would be starting at the time, and it would serve as the perfect product to use for that. However, the product was late and Necromancer Games cut the print run to 2000 copies.

On the negative side... Some of the content seems pretty traditional, a little too much so for my tastes.
Wererats in the sewers, a rich family in the town who are actually vampires and so on.
All pretty traditional MM fare... opponents players with experience are likely to have faced before. But this is a personal thing--it could be good for some groups--and I think it could be tweaked fairly easily to insert more exotic fare.

Since it is similar to VoLK, you might want to read the VoLK reviews here to get an idea of whether it suits you or not: http://www.enworld.org/reviews/index.php?sub=yes&where=currentprod&which=necrotvolk

Nothing against Barakus, but I say wait for the Complete Rappan Athuk from Necromancer Games! :) 3.5 And should be fun! :D

Rappan Athuk is not for first levels. You could do what i am doing. I have started a Necromancer module campaign that started with their Wizards Amulet download. We are now into their Crucible of Freya, an Ennie award winner, i believe. Next we will be settling into lost City of Barakus, and yes it is easy to "customize", either in monster flavors and in levels. From there they will stretch out to hopefully include the modules of The Grey Citadel, Rappan Athuk 1 through 3, and the Tomb of Abysthor. I also hope to fit in Hall of the Rainbow Mage. i will also "insert" things from Demons and Devils as well as Vampire and Liches, plus a couple of Taverns from the Book of Taverns.

The backdrop for all of this will be/is the new/old Wilderlands setting from Necromancer/Judges Guild. The more i work out how to fit this all together the more excited I become. It has been a long while since creating a campaign got my blood flowing like this, especially one that isn't a total homebrew.

The only non-Necromancer source book i will be using is the Book of The Righteous by Green Ronin. I am using thier Pantheon and churches. I will be keeping Orcus as is though. He is just too much of an old favorite to get rid of, plus I have found him easy to fit in under Asmodeus in the BotR pantheon.
