Sorry, latched onto the 'not contributing in combat/dominating out of combat' misperception. Obviously, a support character like a 'lazy' Warlord, Pacifist Cleric, or Lore Bard that willfully eschews offensive spells still contributes in combat.That's my kind of support character. In term of 5e I guess that would be a lore bard with a different flavour.
