Except that drow was a perfectly legitimate word for a faerie, goblin or elf before E. Gary Gygax further defined it for D&D as our own lovable dark elves. And guess what? It's pronouned to rhyme with crow, not cow.

Just because Gygax said it that way doesn't mean it's right.

Josh, are you familiar with the word "pedantic"?

;) :) :D

Meh. Deleting my comment, because this is turning into a silly conversation I don't really want to be involved in, in retrospect.

I dunno, I'm a bit of an minor armchair linguist/dabbler in semantics at times, and I really only get bent when I see the incalcuable amount of people exercising the "lose vs. loose" error. That one really sets my teeth on edge; it's not just a misspelling, it's a whole different freakin' word, folks :). The rest of it I tend to roll with.

Of course, I learned how to properly pronounce "Drow" from a native speaker of the closest root word to it (IMO, it is arguable), and ta heck with anyone who doesnt like the way I say it :p

Absolutely. Not just an attitude; a way of life.

Simon, we are discussing the correct pronunciation of imaginary creatures, organizations, and concepts unknown to 99% of the world; the pedantry has only just begun! :D
