Putting "Vorpal" on a bow

You may also want to note that vorpal, unlike the energy and bane abilities, does not have the text saying that missile weapons impart this ability to their ammunition - thus any arrows fired would not be vorpal even if the bow were.

Boy, that would be annoying to find out after creation. "Sure, your bow is vorpal. You need to sharpen it to an edge and whack people with it to activate that power, though."

The implication is that special abilities come from the tables, and given that the tables are specific to Melee/Ranged, it follows that when you create a magic weapon and give it an ability from the Melee Weapon Special Ability table, it has to be a melee weapon for it to apply...!

Well, like I said, if we're working off of implication, the fact that ki focus is specifically called out as being melee-only implies very strongly that only being on the melee table is not enough to make you melee-only - throwing and vicious have the same specific prohibition as well, and distance and seeking are the same way for ranged. If the simple presence or absence from the respective tables were enough, none of those would be needed.

Of course, if we take the text too literally, the implication is that only swords are worth making defending...

Wouldn't be the first time unnnecessary text was included :)

But my main reasoning for assuming that ranged weapons can't have melee special abilities is that is disallows 50 +1 Arrows of Spell Storing for 8000gp.

Let's just avoid half-dragon, it's overdone.

of Legend.

And paragon.

Add in the envenommed (Strange Lands) and the pseudonatural templates as well, and I'm sold.

Thats about where I'd be. If you want to enchant a bow for distance or frequency fine, but if it is not in contact with the critter when it dies it can't be vorpal.

If I had a vorpal glove could I make every stone I threw Vorpal? How about if I threw a bannana?
